Just trying to see how many of you would "man up" to the occasion and participate in a 2.2L Turbo kit! (Alpine Developments)

oh wow, then yeah. can you get aligned with the new garrett kits? you may have better luck there if none on the alpines.
if i didnt have a wedding to help pay for, a new house and furniture, a new french drain in the basement as well as remodeling. id be all over that....

1) a piggyback, and i dont like the idea of having to fool my ECM
2) a one time set tune, with no way to modify it
3) doesnt compensate for us SAI cobalts
Turbo Kit price is about right. But a real serious question...do you offer engine management or have a link to a provider for our engines? $3.5K plus $1K-2K install is a good deal, but a $7K new engine replacement on top of that adds up.
I see it comes with a preprogrammed ECU. Is it a plugnplay for our applications or more like a piggyback system? What factory settings will be lost going with this ECU? There are tons of questions determining engine management.
This is a pretty vague statement, "ˇ Pre-programmed piggyback ECU, including wiring harness." And the link sends me to a page that is not working.
I'm not bashing, because I mean I would just jump all over it. Speaking of layaway...I'll send you a PM concerning that. My main concern is the engine management as I almost fried my ECU with a SAFC-II since there is no wiring diagram for that. I just want to know your preprogrammed ECU has been proven.
Oh yeah and dyno charts with those numbers?

It goes into great detail about why the pibby-back is a superior solution to HPtune or similar approaches using the stock ECU. No CELs. No loss of any stock ECU function.
The biggest advantage is it controls both additional fuel and timing advance. Supercharged engines opearate very linear, and tuning is a lot like a naturally aspirated engine. Turbos are much more flexible, and not compensating for additional fuel and retarded ignition under boost with a turbo is a much bigger deal. Yes, you can set your stock ECU rich enough, and back the timing off so it won't detonate under WOT and full boost, but it means it will run much worse under light load. The piggy-back ECU only messes with the timing under boost, and only adds extra fule under boost. The stock ECU cannot do this even if you can tune it, because it has no input for boost.

with the pre-programmed piggy back ecu, is there any way to re-program after installation? and how long is the offer gonna stand for it to be only 3350?

I'll see if I can pirate it over to CobaltSS.Net.
I was at Alpine with my car a couple weekends ago (they're literally just down the street a couple miles from where I live). We think the pipe coming out of the turbo on the trans side of the car and going forward to the intercooler would need to be modified (the auto is larger than the 5-speed, and the pipe probably won't clear).
So the answer for now is "yes," it will work, but "no" it's not a direct bolt-in as it is for the 5-speed - some modification to that pipe would be necessary.
That said, Alpine is considering the problem as we speak...
Stay tuned with TNT for further updates!
