i find it funny that people are bashing. Yes he could have researched and found the answer. But in short Honda was the first to come out with VTEC. AKA Variable valve timing. They have been using it for years. The other auto manufactures have just in the recent years caught on and basically VTEC has been refined in VVTC. The difference in the older honda systems that use a VTEC solenoid and a second set of rocker arms that open up at higher RPMs (Insert vtec kick in here) Is that now the engines use VVTC all the time. Hell i had a car at the shop that had Dual VVT. (try doing a timing chain on those cars). So in short is it the same? Yes and no. Its the same concept just better designed for power and efficiency throughout the powerband.

The only reason people here hate on VTEC is because, due to the lack of driving ability of most average SS/SC owners, the new Si has a rep of being neck and neck with the SS/SC. We all know this to be false under ideal conditions for both cars, but that's irrelevant on the street.

Actually honda was in line behind boats, aircraft, fiat, GM, and alfa romeo .

VTEC is Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control. Although many did it earlier than them, Honda did it the best. Their system is like having two cam shafts in one. Below 5500 or 6000 rpm depending on the engine, it has moderate lobes for idling and torque at low rpm. Once it revs past a certain rpm the computer turns on the VTEC solenoid, locking all three rocker arms together. Then it rides on the high lift cam lobe in the middle. Ill just show you a vid that explains it easier. This is one of the only systems that works like this and is not really how GM or anyone else does VVT. I wouldn't say our way is any better or worse, its just different.
