I GOT A 09 COBALT 2.2LT AND WANT TO PUT A MUFFLER ON IT. I LIKE MAGNIFLOW EXHAUST I HAVE PUT IT ON TONS OF MY CARS BUT NEVER A 4 BANGER. IS THE STANLESS MAGNIFLOW A GOOD SOUNDING EXHAUST I DONT WANT REAL LOUD BUT I KINDA LIKE DEEP THRAOT EXHAUST TONES BUT DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN GET THAT OUT OF A FOUR CYLINDER. ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATION ON EXHAUST ARE WELCOME

man dont just get a muffler. I'd reccomend a catback. Tsudo N1 exhaust or Megan racing exhaust. I have megan racing and previously had tsudo. Tsudo is $200 on ebay and the performance is amazing. Best bang for your buck. I like the sound and performance of the megan racing better and i got that catback for $344 on ro bear racing. Just a muffler wont give you any performance necessarly.

Well, if you don't want a Ricer sounding exhaust (which it sounds like you don't), then I definitely wouldn't go with either of his suggestions. Those are both rather loud and "ricey" cat-backs. Some people like them, a lot don't.

I would suggest finding someone with an SS/SC and buying their stock exhaust. That'll give you a good bit more growl than a stock 2.2L... that or the GMPP Performance/Touring Exhaust. You'll most certainly find the SS/SC exhaust a lot cheaper... although you don't find them listed for sale that often any more. You could also get an SS/TC cat-back... although you'll have to chop off the flange and weld on a different on as those cars run a different exhaust flange than any other Cobalt.

I dont mind loud i just want this slow car to have some better throttle responce, i dont mind loud exhaust i just dont want one that sound like the honda civics around here. What do you think about a magniflow cat back exhaust im about to also buy k&n cold air intake. And also if i do exhaust and cold air intake, that wont hurt my car like i wont have to get it tuned or anything will i, all that stuff should bolt up and work fine right.

Better throttle response... you're probably going to wanna open up just the intake side of things then. Not only a CAI, but you might wanna consider the swap to the 2.4L Manifold (CED 2.4L Intake Manifold - 2.2 w/ 2.4L IM Dyno). But that all depends on what year Cobalt you have, that kit is intended for the 05-07 2.2L's.

I personally don't think that the Magnaflow would be a good fit for the 2.2L... they just don't flow enough air to justify a 2.5" exhaust, imo. A stock SS/SC cat-back... or something like the GMPP Touring Cat-back would be perfect, I think. Louder than stock... but I guarantee you that it won't sound like 95% of the "Ricer" Civics out there.

And if you do just intake and exhaust... you won't NEED a tune. But a tune can never hurt. A tune can be beneficial to just a stock car.

The K&N is rather nice. I hear that they sound the best.

And I don't know where you looked up that price at... but you would be overpaying like a *****.

Cobalt / G5 Cat-Back Exhaust System Performance - MSRP: $721.00 Your Price: $565.00

Cobalt / G5 Cat-Back Exhaust System Touring - MSRP: $721.00 Your Price: $565.00

Plus you'll need to order a tip with one of those systems, as they don't come with the tip - you have your option of the Angled Tip or the Straight Cut Tip.

On my 09 LS, I had the muffler shop remove the resinator and the muffler. While it was still in the air I got in and started the car. The muffler guy had 3 different magnaflow mufflers and held them on one at a time. I would rap the gas a couple of times till I found the tone I liked. I also put on the K & N air intake. I am real happy with the way it turned out, sounds great, and the cost was only about $150 total.

Good luck,
Dimitri

The ss exhaust sounds pretty good on our cars. especially if you do header back. I'm actually about to get an ss catback and already have the header and dp. It's a good sound and it's alot cheaper than buyin a brand new exhaust. that is if you can find an ss exhust not hacked up or anything

Sound vs Performance

All this poser talk about sound being the emphasas of sound vs performance LOL!!
The greatest sounding/performimg four banger is the Offenahuser warming up on a Sunday Morning at the Brickyard to do 500 miles of battle.
Nirvana if you never have heard one or see it battle.

It's not the sound that's important. idk who you're calling a poser but I'm not looking for just sound. The ss exhaust has plenty of room for an ls to breath and costs less than half if you can find a good one.

Alot of us just want sound cuz everyone knows the 2.2 liter is a dog when it comes to performance, unless you put a turbo or a supercharger on it. Even with exhaust and cold air intake they are slow. I was just looking for something to make my throttle response better and to get a nice deep throaty sound out of a four cyclinder. I know i still have warranty on mine so i dont want to go diggin through the motor trying to get some hp out of this car.

Two of the riciest sounding exhausts available for the cobalt. Stick with GMPP Touring or Corsa Touring if you want a nice clean sound.

I'd agree with jonny. Although I think the tsudo sounds ok with headers and dp. I myself have ss headerback exhaust. it's plenty for our lil 2.2l

1981 Turbo V/8 303 CI. Turbo Indy Pace car=210 hp.
My new 1974 V/8 Camaro=145 hp.
I think my 73 Vega was around 80 hp.
09 LS 155 hp. with 5 speed CAI,Full exhaust and a tune is a peppy grocery getter.
Sorry still stick to sound just = Noise!
Being in the powersports industry for pushing Thirty years our biggest problem in clsosing riding area's and annoying neighbors has been and continues to be Noise.

Question for those of you talking about the SS/SC cat-back....I bought one for $45 locally quite some time ago. I was waiting to get a header/dp before installing it all. I found a Pacesetter w/ 1.75" primaries and an Exhaust Depot catless DP. I am curious if there are any soundclips floating around of the SS exhaust on a 2.2?

Also, in your opinions how will the exhaust I have sound and perform? Would I be better off getting the resonator on the DP replaced with a cat?

Thanks for your help.

I didnt read the entire post so sorry if this is just repeating someone but, i put the vibrant muffler and double walled tip on my 2.2, just cause i wanted a diffrent sound and look, it sounds great! pair that with the typhoon intake and its makes it louder! but dont do a magnaflow, it sounds like a old toyota, the vibrant has the nice "german sound" thats how the shop discribed it but idk haha it just had the nice hum? sounds really good, wish i had a model number or something but i dont lol, hope it helps

get a 2.5 inch stock exhaust from a ss/sc or 2.4 then get your own muffler
