gas matters?
thought i'd treat my g5 right this week and put 93 in her (not tuned for it, actually not tuned at all). dear god wtf!! thing hauls ass like it never has before. does this make any sense? ive been tempted to put only a 1/4 tank of e85 to see how it performs, but thought i'd get some insight before I go that far.

There's a high and low octane table stock. It makes a difference just maybe not as significantly as a tuned car. I added 2-3 degrees of timing on my tables via HPT. I have full bolt ons but not everyone does. The extra timing really makes a difference when paired with:
Disabling the throttle opening delay
Setting PE delay to 0 RPM
Increased trans pressures so it doesn't make ricer shifts anymore

I can't find 93 anywhere but I found 92 at a heavily used Sinclair. I want to find 93 so bad...

im running 93 right now, but that's bc all the stations around here have/are switching to the lovely winter blend and I get a little bit better mileage per tank then i would on 87. but the rest of the year I run 87-89, and put 93 with cleaner every once in a while to clean everything out.

All cars are built to handle just about every octane of fuel available...though I commonly see 87, 89, and 93. Idk about 94 or 100 I think you need a tune to run those effectively but I've run 100 in my car before with no issues but I don't do it very often...the price alone is enough to keep me away.
You can run 93 without a tune and supposedly it helps clean the engine, though I don't know if that's just a myth. You can just use an additive if you want to clean the fuel system.
Definitely do not run E85 in your car unless your engine was specifically designed for it. I think E85 cars have a placard on the gas cap. If you try running E85 through a normal engine you're going to destroy it. I've even heard of these flex fuel cars having problems with seals going bad when using E85.
