Removed air silencer today

Hust removed my air silencer today took about 45min. to do. My car was a lil dirty so i had a hard time finding screws. Not sure how other ppl completed it (the how to just has pictures with minimal words and i didn't read all the 12 or so pages...

(If your car is lowered you may want to jack it up)

Steps

-remove right headlight
-remove right headlight bracket
-remove airbox
-removed all right wheel well fasteners 7? or so? don't remember
-10mm bolt holding on lower part of air silencer

I have a REALLY hard time removing plastic fasteners somehow so this is where it got fun

-stuck a 40pound tent stake in air silencer outlet opening and smacked the **** out of it with a hammer
-pull air silencer out from under the under the bumper
-reattach the wheel well liner fasteners
-reinstall 10mm bolt that held on air silencer (might not be required)
-reinstall airbox
-reinstall right headlight backet
-reinstall right headlight

I think this might help those that are a lil more nervous about doing this.

Sounds mean in 3rd at 3k

x2 and plus if you get a CAI you'll need to remove it anyway. might as well save yourself the trouble and just take it out. Sounds better too.

....why the heck did you smash it out? Its incredibly easy to remove and you pretty much had it going right until you decide to smash it. I removed mine in 10 minutes by removing the splash shield screws, pulled the shield out of the way took out the pin and the bolt holding the silencer in and pulled it out. I had NO trouble getting mine out of the space. So congrats you just smashed up a $100+ piece of plastic.

take a chance against what? Lmao. cel's? rubbing against the intake? water getting into your filter? those can all be solved very easily.

didn't smash it. $100, really? that bitch is goin on ebay! i couldn't pop out that top clip that held in the silencer. that clip is the only thing that got mangled. my air silencer is 100% good as new minus 3500 miles

That almost guarantees a CEL. If your worried then buy a intake CAI or SRI from a reputable company like AEM, Injen or K&N. There engineered for the car and dont cause a CEL..well some have but typically they go away after the computer "re-learns" the new airflow. Ebay ones are not engineered very well and tend to cause turbulence in the airstream which causes a CEL.

it sometimes gives you a CEL. i bought the AEM knock off of ebay aka "Ebay CAI" and it works great. i did not use the air filter it came with i bought a spectre one from autozone. So it just depends. many people have boughten the EBAY intake and it has not thrown a CEL or it has and it has gone away within a day or two. I know some guys who have had AEM intakes and they have thrown CEL's so again it depends. But the typical norm is the cheaper the product you get the chances of you getting a CEL increase a little.
