What is a good cat-back system
i have a ss/tc, and im getting duals fabbed up when im home from iraq. i dont have to worry about if itl sound like crap too much like you n/a or ss/sc guys. lol.
as far as what catback you should get... gmpp. nuff said.

Well what about the other guy he said he is going from n/a to s/c or t/c, do u think gmpp is a good exhaust system for FI? the piping is only 2.25
Hahn has a great system, however depending on the power levels you are shooting for you should be fine with the stock system as it flows very well. Just replace your downpipe and if you want to be louder either get a magnaflow axle back or a just do the muffler delete. There is hardly anything to be gained on these cars by just swapping out to a catback. Get a d/p first from zzp or hahn, then ddo the muffler delete or axle back, dont touch the intake, and get a tune.
I just listened to vibrant cat-back system and it sounds great. I live in a town in where cops always wanna get onto you for random things. when i had a muffler on my ride a cop pulled me over and told me that it's too loud and that i need to change it.
if you trade me your stock exhaust, ill sell ya my dual SLP exhaust for $100 off

Wrong. The SC has the dinky 2 bolt flange and the TC has a 3 bolt. SC exhausts will not fit a TC unless you get a 2 bolt d/p but not sure why you would mess with that.

as for your opinion on exhaust, hes going FI so why not get a 3" zost now? why spend more $$ putting on a muffler or a 2.25" catback?? as for just getting a d/p sound will be altered, and second, why should a n/a car get a muffler delete???? what!? why does everyone base the ss t/c exhaust note for every car. further more if the stock catback was so good why do company's waste time to make aftermarket exhaust systems? and plz explain to me why he shouldn't touch the intake? i can see if its because hes going FI but a sri or cai are always good beginning mods.
sorry if im taking this the wrong way but you called me out on something very stupid. and stop confusing the op hes already heading in a good direction.
you sir! stop talking. if the flanges are drifferent any muffler shop can weld the catback system together or if your scared to do that they can cut the old flange off and put the 3 bolt flange on. simple.

As for the 3"... not everyone is out to produce massive numbers. Depends on what his power goals are. In many cases a 2.5" is just fine. However if you are going deep with this build then sure consider a 3". Im not saying 3" is the wrong choice, just that its not required depending on the #'s you are looking for.
The other part of this story (muffler delete and DP), I thought he had a tc. not a ls. The TC system flows great and replacing it should not be mod #1. A D/P is.
Of course you can do that, but it doesnt change the fact that they are different. Thats all I am saying. I wouldnt bother going through all that either, I would just get a kit thats made for the car I have. I have seen many hacked and welded systems crack over time etc. Its not the first option anyone should consider. Also I wouldn't let just "any" muffler shop around here do the work. They are not all the same.

as for your 3" statement, for a FI cars that only hit 300whp will gain a few ponys from 2.5" to 3". im not done with my build yet and im not producing "massive numbers" or have a build motor, if you kno these cars(which you dont) you dont have to bulid the motor unless you want to hit 450ishwhp + safely. i still have a 2.5" zost and when i took the resonator off i could feel the difference in power by replacing 18" of 2.5" piping to 3" you can stick with your setup but if you run into the same car with the same mods but he has a 3" and you dont you will see the difference.
also answer this, why shouldn't someone get a sri or cai?? i dont care if its for a s/c,t/c or base model. you get pure gain from this so i dont see why you wouldn't want to do this???
if the flanges are different so what, your acting like your doing the work yourself
as for the muffler shops you kno im talking about performance muffler shops. where not in kindergarten so open your mind and see the big picture. things can go bad with any muffler setup, you can dent, cut, or bend your exhaust its on the bottom of your car man. if the weld happens to break then go back to the guy and hell do it for free. when i was s/c'd my d/p was welded to the exhaust system and i had no problems for a 1yr until i went turbo.

Ive owned and worked on cobalts since fall of 05...please hold back the dick talk about me not knowing anything cause it makes you sound like an *******. As for cai's my TC as well as others I know have had lots of problems with tuning the maf tables etc so its not for everyone. I know people without cai's, just a drop in K&N getting better numbers than those with the pos dejon. And NO its nothing close to 'pure gain' its 'pure loss' until you get things tuned and even then for some its a pita. I know several people who have sold their hahn etc.
Im also over 300whp with a 2.5 exhaust. But thats aside from the point that you are missing the boat again here. I actually agree with you if you read what i am trying to say, my point being depending on what you are shooting for it may not be required thats all.
Ok, now time to go and install a header on my turbo ...
Uggg, Im not even going to bother... I can see where this is heading. First you say they are the same fitment, and they aren't. Then you said "any" muffler shop can refab the flange (my point being why even bother in the first place for fk sakes.. lol), but now recant that to performance shops only. Don't blame people for taking your words at face value.

Also I think you don't comprehend where I am coming from. All I said is for a TC the first mod you should do is a catless d/p, then if you wanted, a K&N drop in, and tune to get you out of the gate. But thats before I found out the OP doesnt have a tc so who cares about any of this anyway?
For me 315whp 347wtq is enough for a daily driver that I auto x every other week or so. To each their own, but you certainly do not have a 3" exhaust to make the power I am making. But again I am not saying that a 3" is a waste, Im just saying that depending on the numbers you are looking for it may not be required.
blah blah blah vibrant 3" catback. Done.
I had a Corsa Sport on my old SC. It was a great system but fk was I loud....
If I ever go 3" I will be calling Hahn up.

You said both systems would be the same, and they are not, thats all. Unless of course you custom fab the flange and cut/weld back together which you did not mention, and we already know that route. Thats not 'the same' to me so I hope you understand.

I hate the sound of the vibrant. Especially on the sc with a catless d/p. Sounds like someone sawing metal with a chainsaw.

now for your second comment on the vibrant exhaust i agree with you 100% it sounds like ****. for the base model cobalts its not bad but on the ss/sc its hell on your ears.
