07 ss making weird noise
07 ss making weird noise
ok guys the other day out of no where my cobalt started making a weird ticking or hissing sound while driving especially when excellerating.i really cant pinpoint where its coming from but it sort of sounds like an exaust leak.but when i open the hood it sounds like the motor.could it have anything to do with the oil?i havent had the oil changed in a while, the display staes 30 percent oil life.
don't listen to the above poster, it has nothing to do with your oil.\\
But this is pretty vague.... so basically, POSSIBLY your motor is making a hissing sound, but you don't know from where.... Need to get in there and take a better look around to try to pinpoint the sound.

take a rag, and stick it in the exhaust. (so that you're covering the exhaust... can use your hand, but damn, will it get dirty)
You should feel pressure build up, and it will spit the rag out when you let it go. If you don't feel pressure building up, and/or the hissing/ticking gets louder, sure sign of an exhaust leak. Simply way to very quickly find out if it's a leak or not.

what ever it is it is not that loud.but enough to be annoying and know its there.even my wife could hear it.now the car sounds like a piece of junk to me.
ok i tried that.the rag stayed in for a second and then flew out.
also its only noticeable when driving not when i neutral and revving.

pretty much when i hit the gas pedal, definately hear it more when driving.starting to sound more like some kind of exhaust leak.which sucks because the car is out of warranty.im sure if i bring it to the dealer they will charge me a whole lot of money.but with this car i am not suprised,so far the sunroof button has been fixed 3x,the rotors warped 2x,the front end sounds like a bucket of bolts is loose in there snd the dealer said everything is ok,the pass side airbag light still goes off even after the dealer assured me they fixed it.....twice.God if i didnt owe so much on this car it would be traded in.

Hey man was just trying to help anyway he needs to do his oil change no matter what
i had the hissing sound from my car, it was a cracked flex pipe, just fixed mine last month, got worse over time. I left it for a few months, it was about to fall off by the time i got to it, was very loud by then lol.
following oil changes by the oil life indicator is perfectly safe, gm spent years and THOUSANDS on developing that system.

That is not how much oil is remaining, it is the oil life. If it were oil remaining then that would mean these cars burn oil. No vehicle burns oil unless there is something wrong internally.
if its the flex pipe you need a new downpipe. You can get an aftermarket one from one of the vendors here and an exhuast shop would only charge like $50-$70 to put it in.
Mine was the same issue, hissed when accelerating, pretty much normal at idle.
Take it to an exhuast place, mine found the leak in 10 seconds of going under the car with a little hearing tool.

i was just checking zzp.they have a nice one for 139.00 with cat.
is the cracking downpipe a common problem?

and in 07 werent all cars 5/100K?? take it in and have them check it out under warranty, its shouldnt cost anything to get it checked. then update us.
mine was in an accident just before i was going to fix mine so insurance covered it. Though i ordered an LSJ downpipe for a small upgrade instead of the stock one. Fairly big difference between the lsj downpipe and the le5 downpipe.
no i beleive the zzp bolts up. The lsj downpipe is the downpipe from the 2.0 supercharged cobalts. Good size bigger then the LE5 downpipe but aftermarket will flow better. Also will be louder, more raspy is what i was told.
