08' LE5 Intake

WTF?

I have an 08' Malibu, and I have always wondered WTF is up with the intake.....its integrated with the engine cover.

But ok.....anyway.

I am looking to bolt on, for now it seems an intake is out.

Headers and downpipe......

Are the ones for the colbalts compatible do you think?

The only problem I see is where the header leads into the 2.25....if it would match up with the malibu's exhaust piping.

Aside from the intake.

Can 200WHP attainble with the normal bolt-on's?

They are both the same motor.

So I am thinking like this guy that the header and DP will at least work...chill let him get his full story.

Indeed you are right, however this is the first model year for the LE5 in the Malibu and there is not exactly a plethera of Malibu forums.

I'm not looking for a power boost for racing, this is not the car to do so, however the LE5 pulls great for a 3200lb car, thanks to some pretty decent shift programming of the 4T4E Tranny (GO GM!). But an extra 20HP wouldn't hurt either.

I drove an SS Colbalt (well LS Sport) with the LE5, and then the Malibu, there is a world of difference. Same tranny in both but different programming I guess.

Proceed with pickchurs

It is the same one on the cobalts

Take the oil fill cap off and give her a good tug it'll come right off

his post of the engine wasn't up when i was posting..i thought it was a diff engine then i looked at the "ecotec" and was like wtf?! and i wasn't trying to not let him finish his story i just thought he might have more sucess on a malibu forum or something and his post wasn't up yet while i was typing mine ..but yes theoretically it would prob be the same gains

*edit* = ..btw that intake is really funky

I stand corrected on the model and tranny model.

As you can see in the below picture. The engine cover is not negotiable it seems, until someone take it apart and figures it out. Im sure its not hard to configure an intake for it.

A LE5 short ram would work...WHERE THE **** does the MAF go?

I would need to see a layout of the engine bay too

I wouldn't **** with it.

I mean you could do it....but it would have to have some extra vacuum tubing here and there...

Headers and downpipe......

the header you could probably make work, if you don't mind having the downpipe fabbed up. but, the cast manifolds on the cars are most likely identical

Are the ones for the colbalts compatible do you think?

not without some fabbing... the best plan would be some 3 inch intercooler piping and just errector set yourself one.

looks like a trip to the autostore is in your future if you want that plastic cover off.

But to be fair, leave it on to:
  • Protect the motor from dirt
  • Your intake won't work without it
  • Cause it just looks really cool! (not..)

Just take it apart and find out. As for an intake Pep Boys sells an intake system that all the pats are sold seperatly so you can buy the parts you need and build your own. The have MAF sensor ports and everything. As for the extra piping I'd guess they're probly for sound reduction and probly don't go anywhere.

Take a look at this:
it appears to me he could swap a 2007 Cobalt LE5 engine cover and a short ram ( K&N Typhoon is shown ) onto his Malibu LE5... and the MAF is taken care of too.

Ok, Im no engineer, but viewing the parts at a local performance shop, I belive a custom setup is doable as you can see in the state of the art renderings below.

Also the local tune shop says the headers and DP wont be a problem, a little custom fab here and there, voila.
