2.4L General Questions

OK, guys I'm a newbe so be gentle ;-) I don't have a Cobalt yet so I need your help with a direction......... Here is my thinking:

-Pretty sure I want a 2.4L (don't want turbo insurance and I don't have to be the fastest)
-5 speed
-Cobalt SS but I would consider an ION w/ 2.4 (don't really like the looks but for the right price.....)
-Must be a 4 door
-Bolt on's down the road for sure
-I like white, silver but will consider other colors
-Willing to travel for the right car

Or, I saw an 09 Aura XE this weekend........ 6 speed tranny tap shift w/ 2.4L! Will this car accept the same bolt on's as the Cobalt 2.4L? I know this is a bit of a curve-ball but its worth discussion........

Thanks, John

The Aura is a different platform (it's on the Malibu platform) and very few Cobalt bolt-ons would work on the Aura.

agreed not too many(if any at all) will work with the Aura. As far as bolt-ons for the 2.4L the possibilities are almost endless. Check out the 2.4L performance thread(its stickied at the top of this section) for a list of known bolt-ons that work for the 2.4L cobalt along with other goodies.

Understood concerning the Aura.

I'm assuming the ION and the Cobalt are the same mechanically? With that being said, I like the Cobalt looks much better. I've read thru the performance thread, its very helpful. I would love the SS/TC but I think for me the 2.4L is going to be a better value. Looks like the 2.4 can get close to 200hp with CAI, header, exhaust and a tune. Is this true or BS? Also, I noticed the later model 2.2's are rated at 155hp. With the Sport Appearance package I would consider a 2.2 as well..... thoughts?

I do lapping days maybe twice a year. I want a cheap, reliable, sporty sedan that's easy on brakes and handles pretty well stock. I likely will go to better springs/struts after the car is paid for.......

With an intake, header, full exhaust, and a tune you'll net around 180 at the wheels. to break the 200 mark you'll need to do some head work along with cams that should put you at around 220 at the wheels. Of course head work and cams you'll need to know what you are doing if you want it done right.

With just basic bolt-ons for the 2.2 you get around 160 at the wheels. The decision is up to you whether or not 20 hp makes a whole lot of difference.

Cool, 180whp is better than I expected with just bolt-on's. I am willing to give finding a 2.4L some time, I think the extra 20hp would be nice. If you guys run-up on one please let me know ;-)

Might change my mind but today I think the 07 stocker with 3K miles is pretty appealing. Would be nice to get it for $12K or so........... Don't really want to go FI, been there on Miata's.
