Question 2.4L Mods

So.... I got a whole 1 reply to my last question.... I'll try this in a more direct way.

From what I've seen so far.... no performance mods (intake, etc.) for the 2.4L exist.... in the images I've looked at the 2.4 is strikingly similar to the 2.2 in setup. My question to y'all is this... any bets on a intake for the 2.2 fitting the 2.4?

Just thought I'd gauge some responces here....

I've already bought one, just waiting its arrival. Me and my friend have gun to look for a good exhaust system, but won't put it on till the warranty is gone. I don't want to void that! The 2.4L is highly upgradable engine wise. I can see it being supercharged in the future. I also talked to one of the Eaton Supercharger guys and they said they have a supercharger that would fit the 2.4L. As for turbo, etc.. I don't know.

^^ The eaton blower will probably be the same exact one that's on the 2.0L

You can install an exhaust system on the car, it will only void the warranty on the piece you replace. Exhaust is almost never a consideration to fault if something happens to the car.

i don't see why the intake wouldn't fit. Same motor on the outside and same engine bay. I'd say go for it.

Glad to see that there are others thinking in the same way I am... if I could only find a place to buy an intake from now....

I would get a few little bolt ons too---just want to get a good base line run before I do anything. Then I will know exactly how the modification performed.

Yeah, the m62 blower does fit. I've already talked to a salesperson about the supercharger and it does. It'd be pushing a close 230 to 250 HP I believe.

What else to be done when boosting? Bigger injectors, different pulleys? Some seem to make a big deal about the 2.0L NOT being variable valve timing, it doesn't matter when your shoving it in. Just crank the boost. Personally I will never do anything to my SS 2.4L because it's my commuter. Just mabye get rid of that nasty muffler with a old school, 15 dollar, high flow glass pack. A turbo or blower would definitely make the coolness affect better. I don't think a intake or exhaust will make such a big difference in performance on such a heavy, medium performance car especially for the $. The only way is boost. Then you have to run better gas. Then you break parts. My dad gave me a 26 model T coupe with a 327 cid thats force fed from a 6-71 roots blower, a car that wieghs much less than a new cobalt. Now thats a scarry ride.

a cobalt SS has 10.4 to 1 comp ratio, the level of boost will be very limited i'd say a max 6psi safely.. if the pistons are hypereutectic which i'd thing they are that will also limit the boost.

I will be happy just to get my 2.4... but down the road, after warranties, i may consider some engine mods. Rights now i just want the wing and body kit off of an S/C. I know you guys will call it a clone or a copycat car, but i love the looks without paying the extra money for the s/c.

find someone with the same colored ss/sc that hates his large spoiler and trade with them

not sure how many have noticed , but the coupes and sedans have 2 different low spoilers

and i think the 05's are different also , unless there is a 3rd low spoiler

I am ordering the wing through GM, and the lower valances i have to see if they fit my bumpers first. i know the front will, don't know about the rear. the 2.4 comes with the side skirts though so all i need is the front and rear pieces.

i am getting it at my dad's employee price, so its high but not outrageous. it bolts right in to the stock wing location, so they are gonna install it when the car gets here. friday i hope. as for the rest, the valences and all i'll just have to see what fits and order. i hope i don't need new bumpers. the ss bumpers appear to look identical to the ss s/c ones.

When I got my SS 2.4 I had them swap the spoilers and it cost me 600. I say all 600 was worth it. FYI I kept up to a Eclipse w/Turbo we stayed neck to neck he didn't pull me and I didn't pull him until we got to about 115 then I started creeping up then we had to slow down due to traffic. Oh you should've seen his face he was pissed.

According to the GM people at SEMA they aren't doing anything with this motor. No blower no way no how. It's a 2.4L version of the 2.2L not of the 2.0L so the internals can't support the 150K-mile requirements GM needs to meet for a product.
BUT that doesn’t mean an aftermarket source can’t work out the details and offer a 50K mile solution.
