2.4L Turbo/Supercharger Upgrades List

Well, i know alot of us 2.4 guys are going turbo or supercharged, and ive seen the threads for just basic boltons...but I want to go into it a bit further.

Automatics

Race Ready 4T45-E GM FWD Automatic - IPT Performance Transmissions
- Valve bodies are custom calibrated to provide firm, efficient shifts.
- Modified pressure regulation system to furnish precise line pressure increase as needed with open throttle conditions.
- Redesigned converter clutch apply circuit to yield greater holding capacity under high horsepower use.
- New Solenoids installed
- Modified pressure control solenoid installed (4T65E)
- Additional Clutches Installed
- Hi-Energy Friction Material Installed
- Modified pump to increase volume and enhance fluid flow throughout the unit.
- Heat treated pump driveshaft to prevent spline stripping
- Heat treated apply sleeve to prevent breakage
- Modified aftermarket front sun gear to prevent the pitting and galling often associated with the OEM part.
- Heat treated final drive sun gear to prevent the metal fatigue associated with the OEM part.
- New Torrington Bearing set installed to reduce frictional losses and prevent component failure
- High strength drive chains utilized to prevent stretch and skipping teeth.
- Limited Slip Differential available (optional)
Rebuild Kit: $495
Full Transmission: $2975
Custom Stall: $475

B&M Shift+ - $44.95 (Turbo Tech Racing)
ShiftPlus simply recalibrates your transmission's hydraulic system electronically. The ShiftPlus shift firmness not only makes driving more fun and pleasurable, but slippage and heat are reduced - extending the life of your transmission. Anyone can install a B&M ShiftPlus in minutes with a few simple hand tools. This new design allows you to improve the transmission's shifting performance without removing the transmission pan or valve body. The B&M ShiftPlus electronically enhances shift quality and is adjustable. A simple flip of the switch allows the transmission to operate in the performance mode.

Automatic Transmission Cooler: $57 - $169 (IPT Performance Transmissions)
as alot of you know, heat = death to automatic transmissions, and most of us 2.4 auto's have a stock tranny cooler (thing right infront of the radiator), however this is not enough. Further cool your transmission with an aftermarket tranny cooler! (yes, you can use both the stock unit, plus this one!)

IPT's Synthetic Auto Tranny Fluid (5 Gallons): $169 (IPT Performance Transmissions)
IPT's Custom Blend of Performance ATF- Improves fuel efficiency, reduces transmission temperatures and increases transmission life. Provides unsurpassed thermal stability and up to five times the service life of conventional ATFs. Delivers maximum protection for towing and other severe-duty applications. 5 Gallon container

Auto Transmission Mounts: Back in the day, Cobalt Performance Parts(.com) developed some auto tranny mounts. I personaly was fortunate enough to pick up a set and I have to say they work great. Price was $45 a piece. To my knowledge, no other company makes them. However if im wrong, please correct me.

Manuals

Short Throw Shifters can vary in pricing but ultimately do the same thing..shorten the throw of your shifts. Prices should range anywhere between $130 - $180

Clutch: 300 Torque Max: Spec Stg 2 - $531.50(Turbo Tech Racing)
The stage 2 would be great for a daily driver, as it still maintains its drivability. Stage 3+ will sacrifice drivability with the ability to hold more torque.

Flywheels: Spec Flywheel - $450.26 (Turbo Tech Racing)
A lighter flywheel will allow your engine to rev alot quicker than before resulting in quicker 1/4 mile, Autocross times, while im most cases maintain, or increase the durability of the part.

Prothane Manual Tranny Mounts: $54.99 (Turbo Tech Racing)
The Prothane transmission mounts fit the 2005-08 Chevy Cobalt 2.2/2.4L with the manual transmission. They reduce tranny movement for improved traction and firmer shifts. Made of high quality polyurethane for a longer life above stock mounts. Includes 2 polyuethane insert bushings and 2 sleeves.

--------------------------------

Boost Gauges: If your boosting, its always nice to know what your boosting at!
I personaly picked up a Faze Boost Gauge from Autozone. It works great, took approx. 45min to install it completely. Cost was $35ish.

Other useful gauges:
Aeroforce Interceptor (2.2/2.4 edition) ($210ish)
Dash Hawk
Transmission Temp
Wideband AFR
Exhaust Temps
Water Pressure
Oil Temperature
Oil Pressure

There are no prices, since each company has multiple styles with multiple prices. Electronic gauges will cost more than Mechanical.

A Gauge pod can be found on multiple vendors, I personaly have a 2 pod, and wish I would of gotten a 3.

HAHN Turbokit users:
Tired of that BOSCH Recirculating valve and want a Blow off Valve? Although you can take the time to fab something up to use your favorite BOV, HAHN Racecraft now provides a BOV(HRC Brand) that is a simple and direct replacement.

(HAHN Racecraft) - MSRP: $229

Supercharger users:

Although you essentialy converted your car into a 2.0L, im almost willing to bet that the Harrop upgrade would work. (Just something to think about )

Pulleys can be had for relatively cheap ($60) and will make your car scream. However, it is not recommended to go under a 2.75" pulley with the Eaton, as your doing nothing but overspinning that blower. However with the amount of HP/TQ we bring to the table, theres no guarantee as to how much boost (or size pulley) we can run safely.

Tuning:

EFI Live
HPTuners

Ive used HPTuners, and it is a must for monitoring, however if you have the HAHN turbo, your ECM will be locked, and you will be forced to start from scratch if you decide to use it.

HPTuners can also provide some rather extensive automatic transmission tuning which by itself will brighten up the car!

A 2.4 with a 2.7" more than likely will not be overspinning it.

How much boost would that be pushing? That is the real concern?

Well, the 2.0's overspin the blowers with anything less than a 2.75"

Im pretty sure theyd be netting 18-19psi.

The pedal force is the same as stock. It is a bit grabby, but not that bad!

I ordered mine from TTR.

Make sure that it is the one for the Cobalt and NOT the Cavalier though. The slaved in the kit may be slightly different between the two!

my personal preference is a disengage point closer to the floor and a hard peddle.

Spec 3 feels like a stock clutch with a very "high up top" disengagement. It has the same soft peddle feel as stock. The combination of soft-and-high-and-grabby makes it very difficult to drive in stop-n-go traffic. Even smooth stop-light take offs in 1st gear require alot of concentration and slow engagement to get moving without looking like you've never driven a stick before. the clutch also chatters like crazy, it just sounds cheap.

one thing the clutch does do well is hold. I've launched a few times with no traction at all and the clutch didn't slip in the slightest. I've screeched tires from 2k-7k in all my hard launches, no slipping. 140mph runs, no slip. this clutch was made for launching, not hour-long 7mile commutes...

to sum it up: the spec-3 is perfect for anyone looking for an inexpensive, stronger stock clutch.
