Cai

I was looking to my first mod to my 06 cobalt 2.4, i want to do a cold air intake cause i have been told that they are really easy to install but which one should i go with. I have heard differenct things about performance, MAF problems, rattles other things but i would like to get some input as to which to pick.

I would really appreciate a rating on first off performance, installation(the easier the better as im not sure my dad will help me), problems, and finally/least important which shows more under the hood.

I also be grateful for anylinks to pictures of these installed.

thanks alot
mike

well, there are a few out there. Fujita, Injen, AEM, K&N, GMPP. warranty wise, gmpp will be the best, but this is the most expensive. the injen, which is what im getting offers Short ram and Cold air so you get the best of both worlds. k&n will throw check engine lights on you. aem is also a good brand to go with. installing is pretty easy.

I have looked at the GMPP and would be willing to pay more for it but to me it looks like the only way it would really help the performace is if there was a hood scoop, since it has that little gasket thing around it. Maybe im wrong let me know, and i really am a newb but whats the difference between ram and the other kinds. I get that one is a shorter pipe under the hood but what about performance wise.

thanks for the reply keep them coming

I bought my AEM because, when I bought it, it said it will not void your warrenty. I do believe that with the Injen you have to oil the filters (not 100% sure) but is why I believe they throw CEL's. AEM, has the dry flow filters which are great.

ram is a short tube that stays in your upper engine bay, a cold air intake has longer tubes that run down to where your foglights would be to get the coldest air possible.

The colder the air, the better it is for your engine. So IMO, the CAI is better performance wise.

Just pick one, they all do the same thing.

Stick with a name brand if you want to make sure that it fits correctly
Make sure it has provisions for your MAF sensor

That's about it.

I would check to see if your car has the air system some 06's have b/c the only CAI that works with it is the K&N i do believe.

I think you're confussing this with the header issue...

To the original poster, like I said, it will work fine, just pick one.

He's referring to the Secondary Air Injection, which the 2.4s don't have. So, yeah, pick one and go with it. I like the GMPP intake for the 100% rattleproof design and cool GM sticker for that factory look.

I just had the GMPP touring exhaust installed and it runs considerably faster my question is whether or not the GMPP CAI will do anything (without installing a scoop)...please say it will cause I just ordered it off of the crate engine depot site and am going to have it installed for 40.00$ at the dealership unless its extremly easy to install and yes I've seen Lewis's walkthrough but for a newbie/nonmechanic type is it easy?

A little off topic:

But does anyone know if the GMPP intake fits the Ion? I called the Saturn parts department and they did not have an answer for me, because it wasn't in there computer.

Yes, it says in the instructions that if fits the ION.

I vote for the GMPP. Even if you don't do a scoop, it will draw air from the stock air box bottom, which is already CAI since it breathes from the right fender well.
