Changing the oil in my 2.4 for the 1st time - Questions

Up until now I have always taken my car in to have the oil changes but now I want to do it myself. I have been searching this site for the info needed but it's not clear because most info relates to the 2.0 supercharged.

Heres my questions:

1. How much oil do I add? I see 5 qts. 6qts. and 6.5 qts. mentioned all over this site. Do I need more than normal since I have an oil cooled turbo?

2. Is our fuel filter located up top like the 2.0?

3. Where is the dipstick? I have never even tried to check it and for some reason I thought this car had a sealed oil system.

Thanks, I wanna try to do this change in a few hours.

here is my engine. I did see a yellow handle down below. might be it.

It's 5 quarts of 5w 30. The OIL filter is located at the top, same spot as all the other cobalts. It's right by the dip stick

yellow little circle in bottom left of pic 2 is dip stick, oil filter is same place in all cobalts, normaly its 5 qts, although i would assume that your turbo makes it take more, do 5 then start it, stop it, check the dip stick and fill as neccessary

Might have to take off the charge air piping in the front of the fuel rail to get to the 710 cap.

1.add 5 quarts to the T.
2. oil filter is difectly to the drivers side of your intake mani slightly under it.
3. dipstick is right infront slightly towards the drivers side of your motor.

tips: make sure car has been cold for a bit(quick start up shut offs are fine)

have an oil pan up to the drain hole when you pull it out. it comes out fast.

when you retighten the drain plug dont overtighten because you can warp/stretch the plug. i think imay have on mine and now it leaks. just snug it up till its pretty ttight

have a damn funnel to put in the top and help you not spill oil.

put the socket on the filter and loosen until loose enough you can undo without your hand. if you go too far you wont get the socket off.

good luck

Celica, I always do the oil change on my turbo kit.

It takes about 6.5 qts.

Its an additional 1.5qts for the turbo.

Fill it up, check your dip stick.

Now, on the last of your pictures, look where the throttle body is. the metal clamp, look under neath it. See the yellow thing? Thats your dip stick.

To check your oil level, do the following:

Pull out dip stick, use a rag to wipe away the oil on it. Put the dip stick back in, sit for a second, pull it back out.

at the bottom, you'll notice some slits. Make sure the oil is at the top of that, and not 1/2 way.

He couldn't really check it, since he didn't know where the dipstick was

Yes, I meant check the oil, like on the dipstick.

Be a shame to cook that fancy turbo motor due to low oil.

id assume that any stealership would of changed the oil, then checked the levels.

and id also assume he would of change the oil at normal intervals.

The stupidest/funniest thing I read on this forum was the guy asking about how the engine worked in reverse thinking the turbo would suck air out of the cylinders...Basically thinking when in reverse gear, the engine spun..the other way.

To celica, no worries. Its not hard. Just keep in mind, that it can take awhile to fully drain as that no drill plug drain we use can sometimes be a pita to drain as it takes FOREVER.
