Just bought a 06 Cobalt SS 2.4L yesterday. Was looking through what modifications could be done, and am interested in this: http://www.advancedjdmparts.com/prod...roductid=19767

Question is, will this set off any type of check engine light, etc? Will it possibly run rough without a proper tune after installation?

Tell you what. You're better off going with a more well renowned company over them. Go to ebay and search Cobalt Injen Intake and make sure you find the one for the 2.2L and 2.4L. The cool thing about the Injen Intake is that you can run it both SRI and CAI. I have the Injen as a CAI right now and I love it. I can't hear it over my exhaust anymore, but when I could it sounded mean.

There's also the K&N Typhoon SRI, which is probably the loudest of aftermarket intakes. Pretty much all the reputable brands are good though, like the Injen and GMPP.

 

I'm pretty sure that Injen and K&N sound exactly alike.

 

One is a SRI and one is a CAI


Running both a SRI and a CAI on my car...they both sound completely different.

 

I'm talking about having both as a SRI. The Injen can be converted to either a SRI or CAI. I've had it both ways. It sounds exactly the same as the K&N as an SRI.

i've had both the $50 intake and this one.

it's worth the money, but that's IMO.

 

I don't see the hype of the K&N


Just get any old CAI and slap a K&N uber cone on there and you are good to go.

 

a lot of the early cobalt intakes really were a PITA and didn't fit well, the K&N was the first i dealt with that fit without any "make it work"

 

I see...never had a problem with my AEM...don't ask me about the Fujita though...

 

i never tried the AEM, honestly.

i've either done, or helped do, the fujita, the ingen, the ebay special, and the K&N

 

No matter what I did with the Fujita it didn't fit.

i had the ebay intake with an AEM dryflow, and an Injen.. the ebay intake is great paired with the Dryflow filter and everything shipped comes out to aprox $110.. i think its a very good product

 

I got the K&N Typhoon SRI and am very satisfied with it. Definitely worth the money.

The "sound" is the secret.... when the effective length and diameter of the intake are resonant for the intake valve opening and cylinder volume they produce maximum HP. If it ain't tuned and loud it can't be producing maximum HP. CAI can't do it and a random length of eBay tube won't work either. A SRI designed for a 2.0 or 2.2 almost works for a 2.4 but then amost isn't 16 extra ponies at 5900 RPM!

 

I have the Injen CAI for my 2.4L and love it. The only way I've heard of check engine lights going on is when people over oil their filter. Keep yours eyes open at the vendor grab bags, they sometimes do intakes; that's how I got mine

 

I own the K&N SRI, and I HIGHLY doubt the claimed 16 hp gain that they say it makes.

 

i have had the GM peformance intake, looks great, a nice shows off item, i had the ebay intake, a nice cold air intake, i went and got a AEM dryflow filter for it, that combo rock, i also painted the intake silver metallic to match car, came out sick...and i have gone the custom intake route, honestly bro, a intake is not going to make a very noticeable diffrence...between my 3 setups, they all felt the same, but the gmpp certainly sounded better, better throttle resposnse than the CAI

 

Your best bet is the Injen. Why? Its easily converted to a Cold air intake or a Short Ram Intake(Great for wet seasons).

Price is approx $220.

Sounds good, looks good, wont void your warranty and you'll feel a nice increase in power.
