I'm wanting to put a 2.4L intake manifold onto my L61 cobalt. Pretty straight forward job it seems but the question that I'm having has to do with the 2.4L intake manifold. I'm looking at rockauto.com and comparing part numbers and I've found something interesting. For 2008 they list a 2.4L intake manifold as part number 12597953 which is the same number that they list for the 2010 2.2L intake manifold. For the 2006 and 2007 2.4L cobalts the intake manifold is listed as 12587878. Can anyone confirm or deny if these manifolds are different? Is the LAP manifold and the LE5 manifold roughly the same? The crate engine depot dyno graphs are from a 2005 - 2007 intake so I know that's a safe bet. Price difference between the 2.4L intake manifolds is about $300 though I just want to be sure to get the right intake manifold.

they are not the same. you can use both on you l61 though. the old style is a one piece design intake mani. the new style is a two piece design. if you search around there are plenty of threads about it.

 

Performance wise they are all within 1-3 hp. The difference seems to be fitting the various platforms the engines came in. Steve

 

Thanks for all the help identifying the differences everyone. I ended up finding a 2006 2.4L intake mani and throttle body on ebay for $50 and so far it looks all good.
