Does the 2.4L have timing chain issues???
Looking at getting a 2006 SS without power adder. It has the 2.4L and automatic transmission. How is this motor, the 2.4L? Any dependability issues? My 2.0L has been fantastic, so far.

Takes a while to kick into od (has to be COMPLETELY upto temp).
Kicks out of OD very easily.
Shifts into 2nd pretty softly.
But then again if it goes thats just a good reason to upgrade to a higher stall torque convertor

My LE5 just made it past 80k miles and the timing chain guide let go. I brought it in to service on a tow truck since I didn't want to run it after I heard the sound it made. When they pulled off the cover they found the guide pretty much had fallen apart and had its plastic junks getting tossed around. The engine came out of time but I got lucky and none of the vales, pistons, or head got damaged.
Replaced guide, retimed engine and its been good so far. I haven't driven it much since then because I'm living in the city right now.
The chain guide for the ecotec doesn't seem to be an uncommon part to let go.

I have about 122k miles on mine and so far so good since I drive like a grandma lol. I think once I reach 150k I'll get the tensioner and the cam actuators replaced.

the one very awesome thing about 2.4s, is that you can buy full motors for $400-$600 if you blow it, and trans for the same as well. I did my timing at 60k miles, but it was preventative rather than repair.
