Dual exhaust
Dual exhaust
So here in about a week I plan on taking my car in and having my Megan catback made into dual exhaust with a Megan muffler on each side. Does anyone have a similar setup they'd like to show?
im gunna put another magnaflow muffler on the pass side of the car and run piping from the rear axle and connect it that way, and cut the bumper and paint it nice so i will have a dual system by the spring.
dual exhaust is a performance decrease, unless you have dual headers on the engine it self. (at least thats what I was told, don't know if it's 100% true never researched it so If I'm wrong correct me)
i respect the fact the you are admitting that your not sure. but common sense would say that how is that possible?
Basically, I took my car to a body shop... And I had them cut an exact hole (Just like on the drivers side) on the passenger side, and to make it simmetrical (sp) with the drivers side, same size & location. So they did.
Then I went to a muffler shop, and bought 2 Magnaflow Mufflers Part Number: 14826 and had them put those on. What they did was right after the rear axle, then basically did a "T-Split", or a "Y-Split", but they made another pipe come out of the stock pipe at about a 90 degree angle, and they brought the pipe across the car (to the passenger side), then straight back to my Magnaflow Muffler.
All in all, it cost me about $550 for the cut-out, mufflers, & installation.

how much was it for just the cut-out? the only thing i got quoted so far was the installation price without the price of the two mufflers. i was possibly even considering just putting another stock muffler on the other side.
Dual exhaust on a N/A 4cyl can be a low end performance decrease due to the less backpressure from having dual outlets to choose from, however due to the back pressure, yes. You will lose bottom end, but gain dramatically top end.
However, in a FI application, it will gain regardless.

But seperating the exhaust after the mid-pipe to multiple tips, has little effect.
The last gen M3 has 1 exhaust manifold, but four tail pipes.
Heres my dual exhaust. every car i ever had, i did the same thing. obviously...i had to do a little custom job to the bumper. I have a high flow cat and 3 magnaflow mufflers, and its still loud, but sounds nice.
the tips i have now are different. I have 4.5" rolled straight edge chrome tips. looks nicer than these

i did same thing. replaced factory resonator with a 4" round magnaflo, then after axle had the 2.5" pip split into two 2" pipes, mounted two magnaflow mufflers on each side and there ya go.
i did the cut out myself. all in all i only spent bout 250 on it....unless you count the numerous times i kept swtichn mufflers in replace of the resonator trying to quiet it down, never worked. wasted 100s on that.

And the guy that wanted to know how much the cut-out was... Well, I paid $64.20 because I wrote him a check instead of paying him $60.00 cash, so he made me pay tax because I paid with a check.
So about $60 to get it cut-out.
