Engine Cover Removed?

So... I pulled off my engine cover today just to see if it'd make any difference. I'm kinda bothered about dirt getting into where it is open now... so time will tell if I leave it off or not.

I've been watching my temp gauge and it looks like I'm running maybe 5 degrees cooler than I was with the cover on. Have any of you other guys that have removed the rear cover noticed a difference?

Yeah, Silver. I removed the cover piece a while ago and noticed 4-5 degree drop too. It doesn't really get too dirty without it but I keep it on when the whether is bad.

Oh yeah, finally decided to post so hi everyone.

Solstice owners have pulled their covers off the engine since they've been getting them and no ones reported any issues yet. One member did do a db reading however with the cover off. At 1500 RPM idle he took db readings from inside the drivers seat area. The engine was producing 2 db higher with the cover off at 1500 rpm compared to it being on. I'm pretty sure at 7000 rpm in our cars that would climb even higher once the engine is revved up.

its gonna get dirty with or with out it

so it wont matter if you leave it off

personally i hate the look of the cover , and would leave it off

it was put there to help drop the noise levels , as well as to give it a higher class look (nice thought POORLY done)

I thought the cover was retarded looking. I took it off before I even left the dealership. So I never noticed a temperture difference or sound difference. Is there one, apparently. I'd assumer that it's not enough of a difference to warrant a problem of any sorts. I just can't wait the get my Injen intake so I can get rid of the other big black insert...plus it'll sound and perform a tad better.

I took mine off on day one. never a problem. The cover isn't there to keep then engine clean, it is full of sound deadening material to keep it quite.

no its not there to keep it clean its there to keep it quiet. I have noticed **** splashes on it though so it obviously does keep some **** off, on occasion, but who cares. You clean your engine too, don't you?
Take it off, enjoy the temp drop, clean the engine bay then spray it with some engine protectant so the aluminum doesn't oxidize in the future (no cover doesn't prevent it). Also increases longevity of wire coverings. While you are at it spray some on the covers for the gearings between the wheels too.
Just read directions first.

Dude the cover comes off real easy. First you have to take off the oil fill then just pull up. Don't forget to put the oil cap back on though. I know it's common sense to put it back on but tell the dealer that..... As for me, I live at the beach and my engine get's loaded with sand...so the cover stays on.
