Engine power and questions

At first i was considering trading in my 06 ss sedan for an ss coupe or even an ss/sc but after waiting and driving more im lovin the car. im still going to get the best model once my lease is up, w/e the ss/sc is 3 years down the road, but even still this 2.4l engine is pretty dam fast. i have an auto in it but when i pop it in low gear which turns off traction control and floor it it flys! one question, is traction control on the manuals?

when i went to my dealer and we discussed options on trading it in for another car 2.4 coupe or ss/sc all paths lead to HUGE money loss, and high payments for the next lease. he explained to me something about residual value and that now if i were to lease the exact same car for the same price right now it would be about $40 more per month, wtf does that work? right now if i were to give them the car and start a new lease, the depreciation he said is around $5500. so even if i were to pay that straight up front and lease a LOWER cost cobalt it came out to be more per month then what im paying now. are they trying to **** me up the ass for money or how does that work. also lets say i wait 2 years and try to switch over to another vehicle then, will they take the depreciation value which obviously would be lower then what they qouted me now, or would they consider how much i've already paid per month in leasing. thats what i dont understand. another question is i have about a 120pound subwoofer box(inc subs) in the back, does that make a BIG difference on HP/speed? last question is that right now i have all grey interior and i want black seats. are these available through my dealer(if you know offhand) if they are able to switch seats. they are nice, heated leather but the grey is kind of boring. anyways those are all my questions and comments for now. this is a great car, its not a supercharged but i can certainly feel the power as i drive it more and more. up to almost 6000 km. one more question, what exactly is an ECU, i know it controls the engine but where is it located and what does it look like. if i get the ECU upgrade which Jerryg has done, will that void the warranty and will the dealership be able to tell easily. thanks.

I'll take a stab at it for you:

1) No traction control on manual transmission cars.

2) Trying to get out of a lease in order to lease another vehicle is costly. All the dealers will do this to you. I'd wait out your lease if I were you.

3) The 120 lb sub does not affect horsepower. However, it is quite heavy, so it will affect acceleration and top speed. If performance is more important to you than shattering your rear window, dump the sub.

4) Yes, the dealer could sell you the seats. I have no clue what they cost, but I'd be prepared to fork out. The grey can't be that bad can it?

Anyhow, welcome to the site. Nice to see another Edmontonian.

By the way, I washed my car tonight, and decided to go for an 1.5hr trip around the city. I passes a red SS 2.4L sedan twice, once when I was turning west onto Jasper Ave. That wasn't you out tonight was it?

Actually I was cruisin down jasper ave tonight but my car is silver with limo tint in the rear. actually looks pretty good.

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably just hold out till near-end lease and get the newest ss/sc. and DAM that traction control on automatics, wish there was a way to turn it off because i can feel the difference when shootin out in low gear with T/C off. ;p

btw do you park around 108st because my girlfriend lives there and i've seen a black ss/sc there twice ;p

No thats probably not me you saw, I live on the south side (Terwillegar). 108 st and what ave? I have some friends near the old Heritage mall. I park just north of Heritage, just off 111 st when I visit friends.

I have seen 2 other Black SS/SC in the city, so it could be anyone.
