got lucky but now check engine light?
hey guys
well guys i just baught my cobalt ss about a week ago and so far i seem to really like it. Ive owned mitsubishi's since the day i started driving so the cobalt is a whole new world for me. Well today must of been my lucky day because me and my brother own a detail shop and we got a cobalt in from a local dealership and it had some nice goodies on it and they wanted it turned back to completly stock!
Well i poped open the hood and there was a nice shinny and looked to be brand new K&n typhoon intake. I started looking all over and noticed it had a full vibrant exhaust includeing a vibrant header and downpipe, touch screen tv and a huge sub box in the trunk. I called the dealership and they said i could have all of it!
well i installed the intake and took it out for a quick spin and noticed a very nice increase and on top of that the engine screams at hi rpms lol. i pulled the header and downpipe and it looked to be brand new also. I looked around and found that the vibrant header runs around 600.00!
well i installed it and i have a slight leak where the header and downpipe bolt up but nothin to bad. i messed with that for awhile and then finally pulled it out to test it out. soon as i started to pull out there poped up a check engine light. i took it out for drive and i noticed a big gain and a hard steady pull from 4.5k all the way to redline. the more i drive it the better it seems to pull. Ive never felt a intake and header/downpipe do so much. Its like night and day.
anyways is the check engine light normal with these mods? i noticed when i was in 5th gear at about 2k rpm and i floored it or just put alittle loud on it and the engine kinda stumbled and it kept doing it every time i put loud on the engine. i know thats a low rpm but i was just checking response in all rpms and it just started stumbleing or sputtering. its never did that before. but if i downshifted and went threw the rpms it wouldnt do it. also if i take it to the dealership will they complain or void my warranty for these 2 bolt ons?
i researched and couldnt find anything about a check engine light after simple bolt ons. btw i will be taking it tom. to pull codes from autozone.
thanks alot guys. This seems to be a awesome site

the downpipe has a highflow cat. and i didnt install the catback. After doing some research, i found out that the ss has 2.5in exhaust? if thats correct which it seemed when i was under it, i was gunna keep my catback. Plus i like the way it sounds after the header. nice rumble but not loud. All my buddies keep telling me to instal it but would i notice anything with the catback also? besides it being much louder? cause it sound great on the other cobalt which was a 2.2 but was loud ass hell n im not into that anymore (sick of cops mainly). also my buddy has a ss/sc and he had his tuned and recomended me to a guy to get mine done once i started doin some mods but will tuning take my check engine light away? cause with only 16k miles and me only owning it a week, the check engine light annoys the **** out of me. lol

if the check engine light is caused by the exhuast, which im almost positive thats why, then yes a tune can eliminate that check engine light. depends on the tuner

auto zone is retarded I'm a tech and ppl bring in this print out of the codes 99% of the time there wrong and there pulling them with a 60$ scanner and a kid who has no clue what' he's doin we have two scanners the OTC genisys($4000) and the snap on versus ($8000) unless u hooked up ur o2's wrong which is nearly impossible I bet u its just the po420 catalytic low efficency find someone with hptuners or get trifecta like I did

I have never ever heard of a dealership ever saying that ever expecially to a detailing shop! Are you sure its not a chop shop? Just curious! Kind of fishy if you ask me!

i pulled the codes myself i didnt have anyone else do it. But i dont see why it would give me a wrong code twice even after reseting it. No codes about a cat.
we do more than just detailing but i took the car in my shop to remove the body kit that was literally falling off n thats where everything fell into place. this is the same dealership i baught my cobalt from, there cool. Dealerships dont want modified cars hence why i got to take everything and turn it stock worked out for them and me
