Got the shakes when braking

I think my rotors have warped. I have less than 3000 miles on it and when I brake a little hard I have the shakes. Anyone else have this problem so early in the life of the rotors. I am taking it in but I just think if they replace the rotors it will just come back. Is this a problem with Cobalts or is just mine?
Thanks
John

You always got to break in new brakes, everybody forgets to so then they warp or glaze over ..... It's like breaking in a audio system If you blast them the first time then your possibilities of blowing them increase.......
you gotta get the brakes used to heat and stress before you go all out on them

The dealer will only machine them. GM rotors are weak. Ive done it twice already (under warrantee).

Also one other thing to get checked is that your wheels are balanced. i was haveing the same problem and got my wheels balanced and it's running just fine now.

Mine were replaced by the dealer with GMPP cross drilled/slotted rotors after they warped the first time and got resurfaced and then the problem came back. Now that the new GMPP ones are on, I haven't had any problems and there is virtually no brake dust either

did you pay for the rotors or did the dealer?

Mine's only got 3400 miles on it and i noticed this last night. what i need to do is go out on some empty road tonight and see what happens. made sure it wasn't just crappy florida tarmac

GM rotors hate water, as soon as they get a little hot and hit some water, they get crooked.

Hi Wo|F -

Now there's an interesting theory.

I have brake pulsation in the pedal on my cobalt - 3300 miles here.

I was careful to break in the brakes - not my first rodeo.

I think I will take it back in and see what they will do - slotted gmpp rotors would be the shiznit.

I have to take it back in due to the seat cover not being on the passenger seat correctly, and the sunroof still makes noise.

Still loving the car - but that's why we have warranty.

best regards -

I'm a cab driver, I've driven Impalas, Malibus, Intrepids, Stratuses and Camrys and I tell you, in 6 months I had to change the rotors twice on the chevys, but never had to change them on the Dodges or the toyota in a year and a half... and I do 1500 miles per week in the cab.

I brought the car to my normal dealer at 3k miles and they resurfaced them (no questions asked) I brought it back to the same dealer less than 3k miles later with the same problem and they tried telling me it was "normal wear" now.

I said fine and called GM customer service right away and they told me to go to a different dealer. The next dealer I went to took the car out for a 1 mile test drive and ordered the rotors.

They said the reason why they are putting the GMPP rotors on are because GM doesn't have a fix for the normal style rotors yet and chances are if I had the normal ones put back on, it would just happen again....and that's my GMPP Rotor story

i had mine in dealer yesterday. it wasn't so much shaking when stopping as it pulls to one side and feels grabby (like it's gripping, then not so much then grip again, NOT the ABS).

also, since i got it, it has pulled ever so slightly to the left on the highway. the dealer told me that this is normal. i've had it with them, i gotta find another dealer.

I don't think that GM would ever let it go that far. I'm sure they will replace the rotors before they give you a new car. Do you have shitty dealers around your area. I have never had a problem with mine. In fact they replaced my cats for free when they were clogged and the car is 6 years old and I didn't even buy the car there.

I am taking mine in for this Thursday. I'll let you guys/gals know the outcome. I am also having the steering checked out because I have the dreaded clunk while turning. My radio is making a strange beeping sound sometimes. I am also going to have them fix the rattle on the passenger side dash area. Other than that I am loving the car.

yes it is very sad, i have taken the car to the three major dealers here in south florida, and i have even contacted GM personally and they told me that if i wasn't happy to send in the vehicle defect form...i love the car, but the brakes are just getting aggravating! i mean eventually they will HAVE to replace the rotors, bc you can only resurface them so many times...

I took my car in for brake shimmy, and they machined them aswell...

The guy also said that, apparently they were machined already, at the time car had 5,400km on it, car was on the lot for a month in the winter must of got a little rust on them and the rotors were machined before I picked up the car....

The guy that was looking at my car, said that the rotors are warrantied for 60,000km and told me that around 55,000km bring the car in and say, "the rotors are warped and I want new ones".

By 10,000 miles my SS shook on braking. I've had the same problem with every modern GM. On a pair of Grand Ams we owned, I replaced the rotors and pads with Powerslot and Metal Master (Axxis) rather than fight the "turn and warp again" cycle. I'll likely do the same for the Cobalt rather than fight with GM.

Someone mentioned GMPP rotors. Does anyone have a part number or a link? I don't find them listed for our car.
