a header question

how many people have just used a stock exhaust manifold gasket when installing a header?

when i went to install mine with a stock crap gasket and i saw that it kinda canceled out the effect of the header.

so i called cti and they gave me they number which for an embossed copper gasket from sce gaskets it is 9431 from summit it cost 21 bucks shipped

Stock header gasket is more then sufficient. You can always use some copper spray on stocker if you really wanted too.

i'll find my camera and show that the stock gasket cuts the flow into the header at least on my header

Exhaust gasket fits the stock head port, which will restrict flow. So unless you're porting your head, theres no need for a larger exhaust gasket.

stock lined up with bottom of header tubes

copper sce gasket on header

copper and stock compared

there is about an 1/8 inch of stock blocking the header tube

so why put a header on if you are just gonna block airflow through it

You're not blocking airflow. You're comparing the wrong side lol. The factory gasket does restrict flow on the head side. If you're not restricting flow on the head side, the header side is null and void.

Think outside the box.
