Help! Tried getting my car tuned with hp tuners and this is what happened

I went to a dyno that had hp tuners to try to tune my automatic cobalt ss. At first I guess he couldn't get his laptop to comminicate with my ecm(i guess). Then he ran an update and it hooked up but I guess the software said something about not having a license for my ecm. I was there I waited for three hours while he tried to figure out why it wasn't hooking up to my computer. We looked on forums and he said something about their being some computers that are not supported by the software, and that was the only explanation that he could think of.
I thought hp tuners supported the automatic 2.4's, is this the case or are their some that are not
if they are supported what might have kept him from connecting to my ecm
if it turns out that this guy just didn't know what he was doing does anyone know anyone who tunes the 2.4's in the orlando area

it does. the "license" is bought through HPTuners. the credit system...its not free for tuners to tune a vehicle because they have the software..it costs them money.

if he did have the license for the car (which is possible to do a unlimited model/year for more credits which lets you tune the same car type)...when he ran the update, it might of fucked it up.

he didn't have the license for the car but he was saying that a prompt was supposed to come up where he could purchase the license and for some reason that prompt was coming up. I remember him saying something about it saying I guess faulty pair or bad pair with the vin and the ecm I think, but i'm not sure

That's what sucks the most about it, it wasn't in Orlando I went all the way to sarasota to tune it. 2 hours driving each way. In other words I wasted a total of eight hours my day today just to get a free pull on the dyno and the promise of a lower price if he figures out was wrong and ends up able to tune my car. He sent an email to hp tuners so I'm just waiting for a reply

well I was having a hard time finding a shop in orlando that uses hp tuners so when I found one in sarasota I jumped at it. It doesn't help that when you call a dyno noone ever picks up the phone and noone ever calls back when a message is left

he understood that he needed credits he said that for some reason the prompt was NOT coming up for him to purchase additional credits.

the guy has used hp tuners before but he has used it for gto's. He's never done a cobalt before. But when I spoke to him on the phone he made it seem like it shouldn't be a problem. That's why I drove all the way over there. Those anyone know anyone who is tuning 2.4s in or near the orlando area?

If you get the credit system figured out and you are able to tune, there is a known issue with the 2.4 ECM. You may not be able to write to partial files. You will gets write fail errors. If that happens, you can do a write total, and that will work. HPT is aware of the issue.

171 at the crank or flywheel
134 is how much hp my car is pushing to the wheels. Two different numbers. Horsepower at the wheels is always less than at the flywheel because power is lost in the drivetrain. More power is lost to the wheels in an automatic than in a stick. I've heard that you should estimate about a 18% loss in a stick and closer to a 25% loss in an automatic.

wait wait...he said that a prompt kept coming up for him to purchase additional credits??? if thats the case then it sounds to me like he needs to purchase additional credits. that doesn't seem like it would take 3 hours to figure out to me but maybe theres another issue going on.

is there a difference between purchasing a license and credits?

Each year/model of a car has to be unlocked. It costs 6 credits to unlock an entire model year. So for 6 credits (about $300), I can unlock every 2006 Cobalt SS S/C. Therefore, I can't tune any 2.2, 2.4, or any other year unless I unlock them.
Or you can buy 2 credits to unlock one Vin number. Therefore, I can unlock my car, but not tune on anyone elses until I unlock theirs

No that's my bad, there was a mistake in the first post that you quoted. I fixed it.
He said that a prompt is supposed to come up for him to purchase the credits but for some reason it wasn't showing up. That is why he emailed hp tuners to see if they can give him some support, because he couldn't figure out why the prompt wasn't coming up.

Wow... I'm running 150 hp and 148 ft lbs to the wheels. Even though I'm a 5 spd. you should still be making more than 134 with even minor mods.....

As for the ecu, be careful that he does an entire re-write. I tried doing the recaliberate with my HPT and my ecu wont let me. I have to do a full re-write. I ended up almost shitting myself in the middle of nowhere at 2 AM because I was tuning. My car wouldn't start or anything once I had tried to re-write it... it erased the computer and tried to recaliberate it, but my car wouldn't let it until I chose the full one. Then it worked like a charm.
