how much horse power?
That is a silly question. Just because you have an auto doesn't mean you can't launch better. You can try launching softer on the pedal and then mashing it after a certain speed. You can try dropping it into low gear holding your rpms at 3krpm with your foot on the brake then releasing mashing it and shifting up into gear.
Auto's need to be prestaged to get a good launch.

NOS or F/I or else headwork and cams, bolt ons wont do it.... If you did beat one before with just bolt ons, he wasnt trying or he was a bad driver.....
Another thing to remember for some of the new guys...the ss/sc is underrated... most of them dyno around 215whp stock....
but yeah NOS and a few bolt ons will probally be the easiest and cheapest way to beat one.....50shop with bolt ons will be pretty even and 75 shot should beat one....

So your saying GM rates 2 models of the same Fooking car Using 2 diff dynos? And that our auto tranny is less efficent than the ones that were not computer controlled? Because 140 hp means your getting a 20% hp loss on a 175 hp engine thats pretty poopy for an auto built in this decade. Thats honestly the same % loss that you would expect from a 2nd gen J body w/ an auto. Also what im hearing is that the 2.0 SC has an engine that dynos give or take 250 hp on an engine dyno?
If thats true (which i doubt all of it is) you would need to make up 75 hp on a manual and like 79 hp on an auto. To keep up with an ss/sc stock.
That being said I can't beleive that GM would give an engine dyno for one cobalt and a wheel hp for the other it just does not add up this is not japan where they have to lie about HP because of a legal HP limit for factory cars.

OKAY!!! to clear everything up because everything is all cluttered and its nice to see it in one place. plus i think some newer members might still be confused on some things...
FACTS:
Stock 2.4 173 hp at the crank. 145-150 at wheels like some said. this is true.
Stock SS/SC at the wheels is 210-220. GM underrated the horsepower. this is true.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now my THEORY as to why the ss/sc is underrated is to help sales because the low # results in a lower car insurance.. thus more people can afford them.
. this is a theory
so you can do the math. 20 hp + 150 hp does not equal 220 lol but it'll get you closer. and anyone can win a race under the right circumstances hehe

I dunno it still sounds dubious that GM would under rate a cars wheel HP by give or take 15 poneys so geico won't charge the extra 5 bucks that might cost you every 6. INS info comes from statistics not base numbers of a car
Slap a blower from a wrecked 2.0 on your 2.4 and smoke em! Remember your starting out with a bigger engine, bigger is better. Always has been always will be. Remember the saying NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT well you think it no longer applies?
Then its a nice easy drive to Tune Time to get the car tuned for the blower and get the trans tuned too.
Yeah if gm is rating our car as 173 hp and the ss/sc as 205 granted we put down like 150 to the wheels wouldent that mean the ss/sc is getting under 200 @ the wheels due to tranny loss? a CAI and a cat back should net you like 15 poneys @ least **** K&N is claiming 16 hp from the CAI alone.
put that blower on, then tell that to a rsx-s with i/e/rh/k-pro.
did the g5gt s/c guy run his car at the track yet?

But they're still a Honduh.
they dont need to be making more than that. people over here underestimate them. remember, they can hang with an ss s/c with roughly 180whp (stock, a.k.a. 200 crank)
so with those mods they would make like 230 and be running with a 280hp cobalt. for sure.
there is a replacement for displacement WEIGHT REDUCTION. that was the only point i was trying to make.
i dont even like hondas, so i'm not starting a war. i'm just stating a fact

Well dude if I gut my car then.....
I'm not starting either I honestly didn't know where you were going with that is all.
And I could care less about gutted wanna be race cars. If you need to gut your car to break into the 13's then you need a reality check!
Know what I mean?

well thats the plan anyways, i wanna get it all done before the damn snow =/
