i have a 2.4L 2008 cobalt Sport not SS Need info for Mods
hello everyone i am new to the modding cars but always have like to do it. i have a 2008 2.4L Cobalt Sport not a SS i was wondering if it the same as the 2.4L SS engine if i could get some help that would be great i want to turbo it lower it and put the SS wing and New Rims and Lights on it i just do not know how to go about the turbo without spending a crazy amount.... can anyone help with some of my questions.
Yes, its the same motor, known as the LE5.
To answer your question as far as going the route of a turbocharger without spending crazy money...not possible. Even if you found a cheap kit, you will have issues. More than likely cheap kits won't fit properly, missing parts you need etc.
My first suggestion is to understand forced induction first...understand fuel management systems and how they work. I'm not saying you have to be a scientist but just understand what you're getting into.
Make a budget and be realistic.
I would highly suggest reading these 2 write ups to get you in the right mindset so you don't just go and blow a thousand dollars and not know why:
Planning & Preparation: The 2 P's of Modifying
Research, planning, budgeting, are the keys to success in modding
I'm in New Jersey as well. If you have any questions, PM me. I have been there and done it personally. Good luck to you.

To further explain why its a "Sport"...that year they didn't make any SS models due to them coming out with the SS/TC the second quarter of 2008.

As far as shops in your area, I don't know any personally but if I were you, don't go to any shops at this stage. I will tell you this, you don't have a popular model car so most shops are not going to be relative to what you would need or want for your particular vehicle. They might give you false information as well. Like I said, I've been there and done that with most shops. Also you don't ever want to be a slave to a shop because they will drag you along and keep that money coming in. Thats why its important to educate yourself on your vehicle and what needs to be done, so when BS is sent to you by a shop, you don't accept it and move on.
I go to shops when I need to and I am doing specific things. Though right now I don't have a ECOTEC vehicle, I still use the same philosophy. Right now, engine work is the least of your concern. Trust me, it will save you more money in the long run to educate yourself and hang out with people of experience. Jersey GM will help you along.
