Intake for 2.4

Just wondering if anyone has fit an intake for the 2.2 on a 2.4, I was lookin at them today at a car lot and they appear to be exactly the same. Anyone know???

That's a question I have been doing my best to determine. I haven't tried it so far, but I have thought about contacting some companies that make the 2.2L intake and asking their opinions on the matter. As far as I know the throttle body and intake system are exactly the same.

id think the 1's for the 2.2 would fit the 2.4

i know everyone that makes 1's for the cavaliers use the same size tubing for the 2.2 and 2.4

so i dont think that should matter on the 2.2 eco and the 2.4 eco

Here are the images of the two engines from the Cobalt. There appears to be a slight difference but I'd say they're within a half inch of each other location wise at most, and appear to have the same diameter and lip depth.

Good images.... just what I've been looking for

Ya know.... it seems to me that with the throttle body in that location.... this thing would do wonderfully with a short ram-air setup. It'd just be the matter of relocating the MAF sensor to just before the throttle body. Short piece of tubing... cone filter.... and there ya have it....

Comments??

The 2.4L throttle body looks bigger... I know the 2.2L utitlizes a 60mm single thorttle body. I think the 2.4 uses a 65mm? who knows... good luck doing some riggin if you can't wait for intake

look on the left on the intake , the 2.2 has mounting studs on it left over from the early ion's and vue(i think) that is where the pcm was mounted

also it looks like the port paths changed slightly , also the tb angle looks a little different

Slight highjacking of this thread...does anyone know when K&N is going to release an intake for the 2.4 or if there are any out there floating around yet?

The 2.4 TB looks to be a little higher on the intake runner than the 2.2

Fujita has an intake in the works for the 2.4L VVT ECOTEC in the Solstice that should be out in a couple months. This kit of course wont fit in the Cobalt, but once the specs are out you'll know for sure if a 2.2L intake will fit on a 2.4L if no one else has figured it out yet by then. Hopefully that means they'll also make a Cobalt version as well though.

I would certainly volunteer to use my SS 2.4 as a guinea pig for the intake. I've considered ordering one for a 2.2L before... just dunno about issues returning it if it dosen't work... heheh.

Mike, exactly how are you planning to mount the MAF sensor onto the custom intake? That is really the only thing causing an issue in my mind as far as a custom job goes.

I'm hoping we see a larger increase in performance with the 2.4L VVT then the 2.2L engines from intake/exhaust. Our cumbustion chambers are a total of 8.3% larger then the 2.2L so it takes a bit more air to completely fill them then the 2.2L. So if the system is being restricted already at 2.2L then our 2.4Ls would be restricted even more. Especially if since the redline is higher too in different versions of the 2.4L VVT depending on what car it's in then the 2.2L.

dremil out a rectangle, and install in the intake with some rubber surrounds. Then use the pre-existing screws on the MAF and some metal wire to secure it in place.

Yea. I bought th Weapon-R and
1. Its trash. It looks fugly and as soon as its on, my rpm hovers around 1700. It won't go down.
2. I bought the 2.2, which is listed as 2.4, but in reality is not. It connects with a 2.5 piece, and the throttle body is definitely larger. I had to take a rotozip to the rubber connector to even get it to fit. Do yourself a favor and just buy the one designed for the 2.4 R&D is done for a reason.
