Intake Question.

okay so i'm new to modding cars however, i do know some common knowledge.

yes, i've searched for this already as well and couldn't find anything.

what's the difference between a SRI (Short Ram Intake) and CAI (Cold Air Intake)?

is there any major performance differences between the two other than length and which one would be better for more horsepower?

actually, which would you suggest?

i've been looking for an SRI for my new 2007 Black Cobalt SS 2.4 and i've been thinking of either K&N or Injen.

any comments on either or both?

thanks.

Short Ram Intake (SRI) means the intake pipe is just that "short" and the filter is usually located in the engine bay next to the engine. SRI gives good lowend power but struggles topend. A Cold Air Intake (CAI) has a longer tube and usually goes into and behind the wheel fender and draws "cold" air from under the car. They lose low end power and gain most power up high.

As for brands, there really all the same. GM makes a short ram intake as well. Basicly pick your color and logo. Hope that helps.

I have an Injen SRI but I have the pipe to make into cold air. The short ram sounds Nice and loud. I like it. I also have a 2.4

Injen is very nice as you can have a SRI or a CAI as it is a 2 piece design.

OK that'll be me. Go to Ebay and search "Cobalt 2.2l intake" you'll find a CAI (some are cutting them to make a SRI) that is $60 and should fit the 2.4 also, other 2.2 intakes also fit the 2.4

I understand what each of them do but I thought sris were for forced induction cars not for our na (naturally aspirated). what are major benefits of installing sris or cais on my 2.4 and flaws of doing the same thing.

whats the best way to go?

SRI is easier to get to the filter for cleaning-CRI=more power but be careful of deep water puddles of water
