lower gears?
well my question is more out of curiosity than any thing i just havent heard anything about it. I figured with all the performance minded people on here the would want more lower 0-60 eta's and quarters, instead of having a relativly high top end. but i wouldnt mind the extra low end zip, yah now i could care less about goin 110+ and all that crap!
but first gear is sooo short as it is. a shorter final drive would make first gear worse... thats why i wouldnt do that. id get smaller tires before id go with a bigger final drive
Lower gears would help out the auto crowd...but then you'd have to have the TCM tuned for the ratio too. I'd like to try a 4.30:1 final drive with a geared differential -- not by changing the chain gears
10 speed bike in 10th gear
10 speed bike in 1st gear
10th gear = 3.1 ratio on some bikes
1st gear = 14.1 ratio on some bikes
Simple answer right? 1st gear. That's because of mechanical leverage. The higher the number (ratio) the easier it is to get started (and accelerate) -- works the same on a car as it does on a bike. Drawback is the higher the ratio the higher the engine speed at cruise -- lower MPG.
Serious Drag Cars usually have 4.10, 4.56, 4.88, etc ratios
Street cars usually usually have 2.56, 2.78, 3.42, etc ratios
Final drive 3.63:1: 3.63 turns of engine = 1 turn of wheel (tranny in 3rd gear -auto)(tranny in 4th gear -manual) OD in transmission helps to slow the engine at cruise for better MPG.
How's that

What part of my simple explanation don't you get?

It is easy to get mixed up with the terms high (tall) and low when talking about car gears:
Lower means higher numerical gear, as in "he has some LOW gears in his dragster"
Taller means lower numerical gears, as in "he has some TALL gears in his roadster to get good gas mileage"

Oh muh god he changed his name to CC08! We still know who you are!
And OP, are you looking for a taller top gear for better highway mileage? Cause I can't see why you'd want shorter gears so I'm assuming that's not the case.

uh... ok? I actually requested the name change like 2 or 3 months ago and no **** you still know who I am why wouldn't you's? I just wanted a shorter simpler name. What else do you wanna ******* pick on huh? What is this 8th ******* grade?!? Jesus ******* christ I can't do anything without being analyzed 24/7 and have some one turn EVERY little thing they find into bashing me. It's getting ******* ridiculous now!!! GROW UP!!!!!!!!! IT'S BABYISH AND IMMATURE AND **** YOU DO IN 8TH GRADE!!!
If memory serves me right Chevy installed 3.8 series gearing in the SS/TC.
Hey...my memory isn't that bad yet:
from Chevy.com:
Highlights:
EPA estimated MPG 22 city, 30 highway
2.0L ECOTEC Turbo DOHC engine
Five-speed manual transmission with 3.84 axle ratio
WHY? To get the MPG up!!!!

"The Cobalt SS's powertrain has a 3.82:1 final drive ratio, which was selected because it allows the turbocharged engine to remain in the optimal section of the torque band during shifts and while driving competitively on a racetrack. This enhances both the car's tangible performance measures and intangible fun-to-drive quotient."
Then why are they rated 30 highways just like the SS/SC?
