Mpg
Hey guys, im new to this Forum, Just joined today actually
. Anyway, ive had my 2.4 for about a month now and have put 1050 miles on it. The car is great, but the gas mileage doesnt seem to be. I know its supposed to get 24 city, and about 34 highway, but i have yet to hit 24. Ive put 93 octane fuel in the car since my first fill up ( the dealership's fill up is the only less than 93 octane fuel the car has seen ) and i dont drive the car hard at all, also i followed the break in procedure to a dime. I now average about 19 mpg city and 21 highway. This isnt normal is it? Should i take it to the dealer?

could be how early or late you shift. or maybe the engine isnt completely "broken in" or sealed alll the way. I dont think what octane fuel you run matters though...
If not, then it could be something irregular or a defect. the engine computer may be off and may be running too rich.
Does the engine run at normal temp?

11.8 L/ 100 kms on mine. (28.20 U.S.). Don't forget to reset each time you check. Keep a record and get an average. My Cobalt SS has 643 Kms (399 miles) on it now. Mostly highway driving between 50 and 60 miles per hour. (Ok I occassionally let her rip).

We get to Goderich once per week so maybe we will see you out and about.
once I hit the 2500 mile mark my milage started to get alot better. I haven't reset it in a wihle and its starting to clime closer to 25mpg its aorund 24.3. which is prolly 60%hwy 40% city
Not sure were your town is at but, when the temps get cold out your mileage will suck. I have noticed when we had some warm days here that the mpg incressed, and when the cold came back the mpg went down again.
Also heard (notsure if true), that gas companies put an additive into the gas in the winter that will cause the mpg to suffer??
Aso Also, friend told me that in the winter your choke stays open longer causing incressed fuel consumption until the engin warms up.

Hate to be the bear of bad news but your NOT getting 28 MPG US.
Go to this site for all conversion:
http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html
Your getting 19.9 (20) US MPG
convert to L per 100kms and then plug that number in.
(I suspect you accidentally converted to litres per km)
Anyhow my 2.4L SS for 29 US mpg when new (5 speed) I babied it though.
Now it has dropped to around 25 MPG (US)
I have seen it go down to 33mpg on a not too far highway cruise.
Thanks a lot for all the feedback, My town in in NJ, so yeah its pretty darn cold here now. Also I'm definately going to take it in after yesterday. When i started my car i heard a sudden and loud rumble under the hood which went away quickly. I checked under the hood and everything looked fine so jsut to be safe im gonna take it in, ill let you guys know how it works out.
i have an G6 and it has the 2.4 too. i was using 89 octane in it and i wasn't getting what i should of been gettin. starting using 87 octane and my miles went up, i think it just like the hight octane so it drank it faster.

thanks for the coversion guys... i hope I get good gas milage, especially if I use regular fuel.
I haven't really driven on the highway for more than 15 minutes total since I've owned mine. 2006 auto 2.4 SS and my around town is also 19/20. I don't really drive it too hard. I would drive it harder if it was a stick. I guess that 19 is just kinda normal if it doesn't see the highway.

so, has any 2.4 owners seen milage as posted on the sticker?

You could get you a K&N CAI, or even just the filter and you will get a little better gas mileage. Even i higher flowing exhaust system. i have the 2.0L with 50% highway and 50% city. and i drive it hard about 50% of the time. i get 26 mpg. That with K&N CAI and a catback too. i also use 93 oct. My advive is to go buy a K&N filter. about 50 bucks, but after awhile it will pay for itself with the better mpg
