Oil Changeing Question....

I'm doing my first Oil Change this weekend on my 08 2.4L sport... I was wondering what all you guys use when you change your oil???

i USUALLY use cleaner you put in and let it run for 5 minutes b4 u change oil..
Seafoam( half in brake booster hose, and half in the gas tank )
STP Engine treatment ( the really thick shiz )
and oil of course hah

I'm hesitant to do all this on my cobalt, bcuz everything i've done that on was 8 years or older than my cobalt, and idk how all the sensors will react to seafoam

you dont need to seafoam a newer car, and especially not every oil change.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30w and a new filter every 6000-7500 miles. I've used this in every car I've ever owned and I've never had a problem related to the oil I've chosen (had a broken valve spring on a car that had 160,000 miles on it so I'd say it did OK LOL)

i always did oil changes every like 2500 miles ..., so none of the additives are necessary on a car w/ 28k miles?

not really. You could run some fuel injector cleaner through every now and then but that's about it. If you use synthetic you can go longer without an oil change too. I get my oil at Wal-Mart. It's by far the cheapest place to buy it whether you use Mobile 1 or Pennzoil or whatever. I can do a full synthetic oil chance for under $30 with Pennzoil Platinum...

Do not use Seafoam
Do not use Additives
Drain when warm.
Fill with Royal Purple.

Buy a 10oz bottle of Motorkote. Best friction reducer on the market. they even throw in 2 bottles of fuel cleaner that are great also. been using it for yrs. My dads gained a whooping 4 mpg increase with this and fuel cleaner on his semi truck. dont use seafoam. Add the 10oz bottle along with ur new oil (ur choice - if ur not getting amsoil, then any synthetic oil will do). remember never overfill. u can also use it in power steering, tranny, and differentials. check the condition of the oil at 6k miles and you'll be surprised at how clean it looks. use motorkote every 4th oil change and fuel cleaner every oil change.

royal purple about every 6,000 or so, I let the oil life indicator get into the low 30s then I make the change. I normally just let it drain for a good 30 minutes and then put everything back together.

I tend to change my oil between 30% - 50% of the oil life indicater on the car's DIC.

I used to use Royal Purple, but then I got tired of having to drive to 3 different places to pick up 2 bottles from 1, 2 bottles from another, and 2 from another.

QFT, unless you totally bag on it all the time. I mean redline every shift, wot or threshold braking....ie, racing.

And the warm oil will be carrying more of the crap out the drain hole instead of it letting it settle out in a corner in the pan. Only drawback is that you have a better chance of warm / hot oil running up your sleeve when you drain it

never wait for it to be @ 0. Back when i was a chevy salesman, on a stock car for someone who doesnt beat on it at all, id say at most wait till 10%.

The car doesnt know the condition of your oil. It calculates it by mileage, and rpm/speed.

Obviously with more hp, the faster things are going to be moving, etc etc and will skew those readings off.

Id recommend atleadt 50%

QFT ^^^^^

You might be able to go to 10% but yeeesh. Take a look at the thread that Maven put up in problems and service then ask yourself......is it worth the chance?

I drive mine pretty easy, 95% cruising down the highway, no racing.....if I went to 10% I'd be changing oil at 25000 km, about 6 months for me. Not gonna leave it that long, 50% on synthetic is lots imho.

50% on synthetic is about 3700 miles. IMO that's pretty overkill unless you beat the living **** out of your car

50% gets me to around 14000 km (8500 miles) but like I said, all highway, maybe once a week 5500 rpm or so through the first 3 gears (gotta blow the carbon out, right? )

Not gonna leave it for 17000 miles, I don't care how good the oil is
