Poorer performance in Cold

Has anyone noticed at least in the 2.4 that when it gets below freezing exceleration actually seems to be reduced as it would be in hot weather. The car runs great between 35 and 55 degrees F. Below 30 F it sometimes feels like it flatlines around 4000 rpm

it'[s not the temperature of the engine, it's the temperature of the air.

Yay for LSJ guys posting in the LE5 section!!!!

Our cars HATE the cold. Once they are warm they are happy though, until then all GM VVT cars idle like ****.

Bingo.

The engines temperature being maintained shouldn't be a problem being that it's a controlled combustion environment (atleast by measuring coolant temperature).

Also remember that at cold engine starts, your engine is dumping more fuel...so if you're just trying to step on it and it isn't fully warmed up that might be why.

well... I have never ridden in any car that was perfect below freezing.

what I would do is, fire the car up one day and let it warm alllll the way up. running the heater as well. cold air can be a mother, so see how it does after idleing for a spell.

also, you may try running better gasoline, or perhaps some drygas to make sure it is not **** in the line.

hmmm.... oh. and if you have a 5 speed... depending on mileage, a fluid change in the gearbox may help.

I've got RP syncromax in the 5 speed. Put it in a few thousand miles ago. i never thought about the gas either. It is 93 octane but maybe just got a poor mixture. Can't believe I didn't think of that

The performance decrease isn't real bad, just annoying. i only really noticed one day, maybe it was a fluke?

Technically, both the fuel and air would be much cooler, effectively raising the appearent octane? if this was the case it should run smoother? Unless the ecu didn't know what to do with it all.

well...effectively the cooler air is like running a higher octane...so basically, your running 94-95 in a car thats tuned for 91. Unless you advance ignition timing, this will hurt your power
