possible bottlekneck

I'm about to swap exhausts with my friend which will finally give me a full 3" setup from the turbo back. we're just changing everything after the dp, but all he has on his is a resonator and piping. i plan to get a muffler but im curious as to if i get a 2.5" inlet muffler will that bottlekneck the system even tho its the last piece on it? or should i just get a 3" inlet muffler and call it a day?

Reason i ask is most of the exhaust shops have to order the 3" ones since they dont carry em on hand. 2.5" inlet is just easier to get.

your entire exhaust is only as big as it's smallest point... so yes that will be a bottleneck!

Isn't the "ideal" exhuast for any car to start at one size and then by the end taper down like 1/8''in. This keeps the velocity the same through out. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think thats how its suppost to work

I'm not sure either, but I had a huge debate on back pressure with my one friend. We still to this day argue about it. I say some is needed, and he says none is needed. Thats for another thread tho. I think the money to hp ratio for the tapered exhaust just wouldn't be worth it tho. The tolerances would have to be so close it would be super expensove and i don't think much would be gained at all in hp or tq.
