Problems with my intake + rain

Well the other day I had quite an ordeal while driving home in the pouring down rain. I have the AEM cai on my 2.4, and sometimes when it rains, my filter soaks up so much water that the car will begin to sputter and cough while i'm driving, but usually only very briefly. But this time the car started sputtering........bad. I had traffic behind me, and even after downshifting, the car just couldn't keep constant throttle long enough to really go anywhere. I had to pull off into a farmers market parking lot and shut my car off. I let it sit for a few minutes and turned it back on. Started fine, and I drove it home and to work today (in the rain once again) no problem. I've heard the dryflow collects and holds water more so than a conventional filter, which is probally the culprit in this story. After reading nothing but good about the Injen for a 2.4, i've decided to go on my next day and buy the Injen, along with an Injen hyrdo shield, for my car. No more close calls for me.......

yeah, well I know its not just the fact that its the AEM and not the Injen, but i've heard so much good about the Injen for the 2.4 that I decided after this particular incident that im gonna change over to the Injen and buy a matching Hydro Shield.

How about hp gains for AEM vs. Injen? Any differences? I saw that Injen had a dyno chart on their site for the 2.2, and AEM used to, but its not there anymore.

you suck water into your motor through the intake.

hit a puddle, drive through standing water, etc.

you can tell because the motor locks up and is never to be heard from again

yeah i mean yesterday while it was pouring of course i had to drive aroud in it..but i dodged all those ponds in the middle the streets. i mean if ur gonna go thru it make sure its a couple of inches and drive slowly in it. so car shud go thru puddles that are several inches while doing 35+...its just stupid. car runs fine after yesterday.

I've driven through mad rainstorms with my AEM CAI with no problem.
Just try not to go through any puddles deeper than 3-4 inches at full speed. that's the only way I can see water getting splashed with enough force to get at the filter.
It sits inside a little compartment in there

Well the SS/SC filter may be shielded differently(better) behind the wheel well than us 2.4l guys. So that may not mean anything.

I have an Injen intake with the Hydroshield too and havent had a problem at all. Plus in PA it rains forever so preventing hydrolock is key. The price to pay is around $30 for the hyrdoshield which is much better than having to pay for a whole new motor! Definately buy the hydroshield or bypass valve if your running an intake! Or you will be kissing that motor !

This is where i got my hydroshield.

Who me? Not even close, lol. Just b/c its an '07 dosen't mean its new. I ordered it in Aug. of 06 and recieved it in October of '06. Its a daily driver, and i've already clocked 16k, changed the oil 3 times, and even got my first door ding via a shopping cart in a Bloom parking lot. And the intake wasn't installed until the engine was fully broken in, though I had the intake ordered and ready before I even took delivery of the car, lol.

I'm probally just gonna keep the AEM, at least until I finish off my suspension mods. I'm going tommorrow to get my Injen Hydroshield at PTuning (PTuning.com) with my friend while he gets his JIC-Magic type 1 underbrace installed on his xA.

And p.s. (to everyone who suggests I drove though huge puddles), I didn't drive through any big puddles or anything like that. I'm just saying, when my filter gets soaked after long drives in the rain, it starts sputtering like that.
