regular or premium fuel?

i just got the 2006 4dr ss 2.4L

my dealer i just got it from today filled it up with 87regular. and told me to only fill it with 87 regular, i was reading the owners manual and it said the 2.4L should only be filled with 91 premium, and that 87 would cause knocking and engine damage

then on chevy.com it said the 2.4l can run fine on 87 and the driver will just notice a delay in power boost

is this hurting the car? should i just use this tank of regular and fill it super from now on? i leased the car to save on gas mileage and $$$ but if i need super i might be in trouble $$ wise lol, it only has 52 miles on it..

go back to the dealer, show him the book, call him a moron and demand a free tank of 91+

You can put anything you want in it---but will only achieve optium power with 91+ ocatne

"Premium recomended, not required" is what Chevy says

Was out datalogging with a friend who has HPT on the weekend and we were seeing a few degrees of knock retard at WOT even with 91 octane in the car. Been running Petro Canada 91 since I bought it. 91 is all you can really get here unless you use 10% ethanol blend in which case you can get 94. Guess I will have to switch to that.

Ive been putting in 94 since day one. The other day I ran out of gas and couldnt make it to Sunoco so I put in half a tank of 91, I was like whatever who cares. Man was mt car ever sluggish. Maybe it was just the weather but did I ever notice a difference. The SS N/a I would put in regular just to save money.

it would run but there would be a HUGE amount of power loss under ANY condition and the chance of knock would be WAY HIGH

why buy a 8 dollar item when you can fill up with high octane and end up paying only about 2-3 dollars more

some one correct me if I am wrong....but the cost of the Ocatne booster is very close to that of just filling up with premium.

Plus theres no way it will raise your octane 4 pts

I've been running 87 the 1st 1500 kms I've had the car. Next tank I'll try premium to see if it makes a difference mostly in fuel economy. The days when 10c a liter more was a big percentage are gone, now its only about 10% or less, and if you get better mileage and economy, I might have to switch to that.

Also, the type of gas you put in makes a huge difference. Coop gas (in Canada) seems to burn way better than esso or UFA. I really have noticed a difference in my trucks with esso pinging while coop doesn't.

but correct me if i am wrong but dont the ecm and all that fancy computer crap gets used to 91 or 94 octaine and when you throw in 87 or 89 oct that would make the car wonder wtf you doing to it..

i remember reading somewhere that a redline had put 87 octain in and ran it until it was dry at the track and ran like 14.5 and then put in 91 octain in and he ran like a 14.47 or somethin glike that.. . and only thing he mentioned is that his gas milage went down with the lower 87 octain.. but hey 10 cents less per /lr would probally equal out to be better if your looking for gas milage then grunt. but ya any real mods to ecm or stage kits it would be stupid to go under 91 unless your really desperate.

and those octain booster are junk.. up to .9 octain poins.. funny it takes 15 (i think) to make 1 octaine point to raise the octaine lvl in a fuel tank. read one of those and you'll see what it says.

i've used if i bought a tank and i for some reason thought that it wasn't running right... or in the winter to absorb some water. other than that, it's pretty useless.
