Spark plugs
Spark plugs
My car has about 61,000 km on it and i figure its about time i do the fuel filter and spark plugs.
I was wondering what spark plugs you guys recommend i get for it. Also since i would like to do this myself because its so easy to do, do they need to be gapped or are they good as they come? i dont have the gapping tool at home

I asked the same questions about a week ago and The consensus was the NGK's were the best but there were a few that kept on saying Autolite were the best. I personally haven't had anything but bad luck with Autolite plugs in the past.
My Autolites ran wonderfully on my turbo setup.
I just put in NGK to see what the hype was about... Cost about $3 more per every 4...
Im not sure about gaping on the NON-Forced Inducted models.

I got Denso Iridium plugs (ITV16)
they have a smaller tip than NGK
In fact they have the smallest tip out of all plugs (patented)
0.4mm
they require less voltage and create a sharper spark
= more performance (minimal though...) and less fuel consumption
Our stock plugs are NGK anyway.................. if you look on your stock AC Delco plugs, they have the NGK part number on them.
They should come gapped properly as you buy them

FAIL!!! I guarantee you if you took say 10 spark plugs and checked the gap on all of them you would come up with atleast 8 different measurements. This comes from them being bumped around and shifting during shipment. It takes 10 seconds to check the gap and set it properly! Don't be lazy!
I have had nothing but good luck out of NGK, I have NGK plugs in everything I own..lol..
S10
cobalt
Saturn (work car)
ATV
I even tried to put one in my G/F's butthole but it was the wrong treads...lol...
I say use NGK irdium!!..FTW

but I checked all 4 of my plugs before installing them and they were fine
Doing some reading with the ngk iridium plugs, it says u cant use a spark plug gapper to game them, but like needle nose plyers...If the auto parts store doesnt have those, will regular NGK's do?
BTW it does say NOT to use antisieze compound on the spark plug threads!!! There is a notice in the factory service manual.
Yes they will work. Just make sure you have the right ones for your application. FYI When I checked the websites for Pep Boys and Advance Auto Parts they only had the Platinum ones listed....
here is where i read about the gapping for them

You are wasting your money putting plugs in at 61,000kms. Those plugs are supposed to be good for 160,000kms. Now I've personally never seen a set last that long without causing misfires.
I'd wait and change them at 100,000kms. The fuel filter is something I'd certainly change now though.
