time to beat a dead horse...

From what i understand, for us 2.4 guys our exhaust is big enough, up untill the point that it goes t 2.25". If i were to cut out this section, weld in a 2.5" section and a magnaflow muffler i picked out, would my exhaust be substantial for, or should i get a custom 2.5" catback or maybe a megan racing? im not sure if there is any other restrictions in our exhaust system.

I forgot the company but they offer a section of pipe just to replace the 2.25" step down.

it would be fine if you had a that section added in.

in all honesty, the stock exhaust is fine unless you're making big power, but if you want some sound, the way you describe is fine.

Im not planning BIG power persay, but i am planning to hit 185-190 WHP this winter. Is complete catback system going to offer me more substantial gains?

I am not to sure of that. I mean you have the flow vs back pressure fight. really a 2.75'' would be the biggest by far for a NA 2.4L and you better be planning something big.

i am waiting on parts to do this. my plan: use a glasspack as a resonator, a magnaflow as my muffler, and have the shop cut out and remove the 2.25 restriction and replace with 2.5 piping. i am doing this mainly for sound. from what i read, when they replaced the exhaust on the 2.4L with a GMPP exhaust the gain was only 1-2 hp. so, for the price i figured my project would be a similar setup at a fraction of the price. however, you get what you pay for as with most things in life. but i couldnt justify the cost vs the performance gain so i am going this route. red hot glasspack $20, magnaflow 11266 muffler $80, welding job ? $50-$150 ? i will let you know when its complete with a video also

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku is the muffler im going to go with. i think our restriction is in the header/downpipe/ and intake.

ive already done this. i got that section taken out and got a borla muffler added on. Sounds pretty good. it only cost me 110 total for pipe and muffler. i got the stock tip put back on so it wouldnt look different. I have a vid also and can post it but its kinda gay cuz my 10 yr old sis was filming and says a couple dumb things

hat, a muffler shop is doing it, i just didnt want to go through the hastle of ordering my muffler and taking it up there and have them rework the 2.25 section if a full catback would be more efficient

I'm definetly getting this done. I'm gonna order the 2.5 piping/muffler combo from customtubes for 265.00 and put it on myself.

You guys think that the Magnaflow 2.5" catback from Mandrel Exhaust Systems

http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com...GNAFLOW/Detail

would be loud as hell without a resonator at all..?

CED has the Random Tech 2.75" cat-back exhaust available too. It is loud and deep. I've had it on for 7 months and still like it. Didn't kill any performance that I can feel.

I had a 2.25" catback from Magnaflow on my 2.4SS and an Injen CAI. Made 167whp and 165wtrq.
