Time to CAM!!

Well im just waiting for the cash to come in so i can pick up the jbp tri flow cams for my 2.4...When i talked to JBP last they told me all that was recommended for upgrading was valve springs so im getting:

these cams
http://www.jbodyperformance.com/new/...catName=JP0990

and these springs
http://www.jbodyperformance.com/new/...catName=JP0923

I know only like 2 people have them but im gonna tackle it within the next month. i wanted to get some opinions from u guys on if there's anything else id need with this setup? I currently have CA's v1 header and catless dp along with a custom borla exhaust. I'm snagging a Short throw from a buddy with a ecotec cav and i'll also be adding a wideband for when i get tuned.. Is there anything else i need to look out for?

If the mighty ben cant do it I'll pay a shop. He's doing his 2.2 eco cams and also my buddy's g8 cams, so mine should fit in somewhere. he's a gm tech anyway and he's done plenty of motor swaps and turbo/sc installs. i trust him. if not ill drive to austin and get centex's help

Cool, if all falls through my bestfriend is a GM tech with a pretty good build record, only guy I let touch my cars. Plus he's been doing it for years. I'll hook you up if need be.

will do. install time will be a good opportunity to re-coat my valve cover. a nice buddy of mine from austin sprayed that tb cleaner on it, and it ate away the paint in certain spots lol.

that'd be a good choice if i needed it. my buddy can get it.

also. JBP just told me that i need to get clearance on the cylinder head for the springs cuz of the diameter. im not too sure wut that means. anyone wanna tackle the explanation on that?

Make sure you check lash after the install. Those are base circle reground cams. Excessive lash can cause top end destruction.

will do. I'm not sure what that means but I'll add that to the research list. Do you know if i get the cylinder head machined before i get the springs installed will the car still be driveable till i install them?

Yeah I am. I'm gonna make a move when tax returns start coming in. There's one on ebay for 250.00, just the blower though, and the seller has it labeled as an M45

i wasnt.. but when i was asking on my local forum about machine shops, the guy told me when i get the head clearanced, that i might as well get a mild port job. So yes i am looking into that. I plan to either throw on the m62 shortly after or a 75 shot setup so we'll see.. im buying the cams as SOON as i get my income tax refund check.

Why and what is getting the head clearanced? I've heard that those cams aren't great if you go turbo but not sure. Be sure to post those port/cam numbers after tune. Why is it that with our 2.4 ppl seems to be around 240whp mostly, one at 260 i think when the 2.0 is smaller and can be tuned to like 300whp? Is the stock kit just way better than what after market is offering?

the new springs im getting from jbp have a larger diameter and need some space to be cleared out to fit correctly. The 2.4 is higher compression than the 2.0 and the 2.2. It runs the m62 in it's efficiency range basically. But higher compression usually requires less boost and a better tune.

with a DOHC and adjustable cam gears, most ALL cams can be made to work well with foeced induction.
It's the separation of the lobe's to reduce overlap that is the determining factor.

ic, so b/c of the higher compression then we can't make the easy 300hp that the 2.0 is making?

whoa whoa.. for the most part it'd be easier. look at srt4's they're 2.4s and they load em with boost. with the right tuning u can do alot. the higher compression keeps us from NEEDING to have alot of boost to make good numbers.

oh okay, it's just weird to me that the boosted 2.4's on here are not over even 270hp. Guess they just need the right adjustments and additions
