Question Vibrant Header/Downpipe

Alright I decided to go with Vibrant Header and downpipe bought one off of a member of this forum. He states that the header and downpipe should fit a 2.4L, the only thing is my car is an auto. I've heard I may need a TTR mount, if so what kind of TTR mount do I need? Also how much of a tight fit is it?

He's wrong. There is fitment issues with this set up, I should know I spent nearly six hours trying to custom fabricate it to fit my car, with no luck. The downpipe rubs under mild acceleration and makes a terrible grinding noise.

Man no way, I didn't know that, well then why does it do that then? Is it difference from the manual 2.4 and the auto 2.4?

What about with the TTR mount? Does it help out any?

I'm an Auto. I have the Vibrant Header/DP. You NEED a solid upper mount due to rubbing issues w/ the header/dp. After that easy installation with the mount, there will be no rubbing. Take it from me. There are very few Auto 2.4's with this set up.

I'm not sure what "fabrication" you're referring to. I simply put the header/dp in and noticed later on that there was a rubbing issue. I simply figured out what the issue was and realized that I NEEDED a solid upper mount. Problem solved.

This is true, the "slop" in the stock mount, that is worn, causes issues. As stated the TTR Upper mount makes it work.

Yes, the motor is clocked forward a few degrees in the Auto. Please note that most, if not all, exhaust systems are fabricated using a manual car as a donor. Not too many brands take these Autos into consideration. At least thats what I have concluded lol

The upper mount is located just left of the motor. Cant miss it. Look for a How-to since you're a bit new at this. It's a simple installation that requires basic tools. Took me 30min to complete. Everyone was a noob at one point. Just remember... I never said that the Header/DP installation was gonna be easy.

Cool Thanks man, yeah that sounds like a plan, I saw where the Mount is at, I have a K&N Typhoon so I guess I'll have to completely remove it in order to get in there lol. Thank you for answering my questions.

I have another one, what about if I want to do an 02 wide band receiver? I want to also check how much air I'm getting.

It's ok, Alright I'm gonna try to set it up today, the only problem I had yesterday was trying to take off the bolts for the Header and downpipe, Should I use power tools? I'll have to borrow some from a friend and all. Oh and I have the motor mount from TTR coming my way to, Any other advice?

heat the bolts up with a hand torch if they arent coming out, thats what i had to do when i put my catback in. i spent 4 hours and 3 cans of pb blaster then my friend said lets try a torch and within 2 minutes they were out

edit: not the header to engine blots just the downpipe to cat back bolts

Yeah that sounds like a good idea, I don't know what to do really, it's the header bolts that are giving me the hardest time. Even with power compress tools I can't break the bolts loose even use liquid wrench that's been flawless to me using it on rusty bolts, doesn't even do a thing. I don't know maybe I should pay someone to do it at this point, just to fustrated lol.

Well no torching required just liquid wrench the crap out of them and finally came off, already did the swap and surprisingly I found out that I had two resonators, gave me a scare that I had SAI for a moment, but naw installed the Vibrant Header and downpipe, everything turned out great no light thrown nothing. Little bit of a noise maker with my Ark DT-S but over all I feel a different in HP. Just need a tune now to really feel it!! I know now what that rubbing is, or the downpipe is rubbing on the fire wall a little bit but that upper motor mount should solve that problem.

I did smell an exhaust smell for the first 5 minutes but after that, the smell went away complete, it is a used Vibrant afterall lol. But no lie it was sort of a pain to install at first but after getting those bolts out from the header and downpipe it was all easy. Over all I have to say that I like this install feels more complete but I won't really say that until I go super

Problems now are occuring since the install, the new gasket I bought from AutoZone blew and there is a major exhaust leak is occuring and it sounds way to loud, I don't know what to do, I worked on this sucker 3 times already one before just because the bolts are to big the person I bought it from never gave me the bolts nor the gasket

I have had mine in for a year without the solid mount and don't see or hear any rubbing. I only have 32k on this car so maybe the stock mount is still stiff.Take into account that I will replace this in time as the aftermarket has to be alot better.

the exhaust leak is at the gasket right? did you torque the bolts in the right order? you might not have blown the gasket maybe you just didnt torque them the right order. in this thread theres a picture of the order your supposed to do.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-...wnpipe-158475/

but if you did already do this i would say buy a gasket from zzp, i know theirs are good. you could ask them about the header to cyl head bolt if thats what you were talking about.

Yes I did, and I fixed the problem but now the TTR mount it vibrates so much it gives me a headache lol. I mean is it suppose to vibrate that much to? But overall the install was done successfully but now I'm running into an issue with gas seems like my gas mileage went down somewhat.
