Wow... guys, the 2.4L was built to run 91 and up. Using anything LESS than 91 will cause problems, because our engine actually has to retard the timing to accomodate the lower octane. The LE5 has a 10.6:1 compression ratio making it perfect for 93 octane.

As for the sedan SS, it has the same engine. You will see increased performance, feel, and gas milage by switching up, and it will NOT damage the engine at this early a stage, in fact it will welcome the change.

Is there a difference/benefit between 91 and 94?

their gas is better than some of those two-bit companies on that list.
I think its just a marketing gimimick by all of these small time gas stations to try
to sound like they have better gas than the big boys like BP and Mobil.
whatever you say man. when my gas indicator says 24 mpg on a highway using gas not on that list then I make the same trip back using gas ON the list and I get 36mpg that will change minds. If you would bet any money amount then you would be poor the instant you made that bet.

I just never knew that Shell was a two-bit second rate company. Tell that to the Ferrari racing team. You can use what you want but there is a reason why some gas prices are cheaper than others.

PS-GM, Toyota, and other car makers have done the experiments to develop this fuel, so it's been proven.

Hell yeah on the resurrection of this thread!

Ok, just to make sure I understand correctly, if I am running on 87 as of now, and when I go to fill up when I'm running low with 91 instead, everything will be ok, right?

You could run 93 and be fine. The motor was built with it in mind... Read the manual. Plus, with a short ram intake on a hot day running 93 octane on the highway at 65 mph in 5th gear, i get sometihng like +36 mpg

If that was 100 leaded you just killed your cat. If it was unleaded I'm surprised it generates such an exhaust.

I just filled up with 92 octane and my mileage seems to be quite terrible.

I mean, I am getting less than 280KM to the tank on normal driving, is that normal?

Depends. If you drive like a crazy maniac and dont save gas like me and keep it in the higher RPM's for fun driving then yes it will be that low. But if you are driving normal then there is a problem. I can get 400 miles with 93 octane and GMPP short ram, pure highway mileage.

Same here, you have issues. I even have a mildly tuned fuel table and I still get good gas milage

That is very true. When I first bought my car I was running 87 and I had problems with it stalling on me...I took it into the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. A guy told me to run 91 or higher...and I haven't had a problem since!

Red, how can you have a 2.4 SS/SC? They only made them in 2.0L... sorry, just clarifying, unless you own both types

A.I.T.H., It's good to hear someone agree

Thought I'd bring this back up (again....).. thought it'd be interesting to see if you guys have changed your octane selectons now that gasoline is over 4.00USD/gal?

I'm still runnng on Octane 93 although rarely I do get tempted to use 89

It hasn't yet. I like to fill up with diesel once a month to clean out my tank/injectors.

I use 93, it calls for 91 but where I live in New York there's not too many places that have 91 around me.

If your ok with your engine knocking every time you get on it, feel free to save yourself $2 a week.
