And dont forget the Suburban. While not an economy car its the longest running nameplate out there.
My 2.4 auto right now is at 24.1mpg. So hes doing better than me!
But maybe your boss drives more city style driving than you do. Cant really compare mpg like that. too man variables.
My boss has been driving the 1.4 turbo cruze for awhile. he has been taking it easy for 2000 miles and his average mpg's is only 26. My cobalt has never been reset and it's at 27 average. I don't think it's going to be the big hit GM was wanting. The one GM guy I talked with sId it would take time because people will be scared of the turbo economy car because of the shitty turbo cars they remember from the 80's.

Exactly, It's grossly overpriced for what it is. I have only seen 2 Cruzes on the road and they've been out a few months. When the Cobalt came out I saw 15 on the road the first week after they came off the production line. If people are going to pay that much for an economy car, they're going to go for a Civic or Corolla that has a more proven track record.

Have you seen what you can get in a Hynduai for 24k? My dad just got a fully loaded sonata i beleieve it is. Full leather, in dash gps, 270+hp turbo 2.0l. The car bl;ws my sisters 5 series beamer out of the water as far as how the build quality and ride feel. Its also faster, comes with a 6speed auto with paddles. Its insanely nice for the money.

My 2007 G5 was getting 29.1 MPG with mixed driving and it was a 5 speed. That was probably the best mpg I have seen in a car that size. My SS/TC is only getting 24.3 mpg and I have to use 93 Octane. Damn that boost being addictive

now chevy should keep the cruze around for more than 5 years, say like 30 years so they can perfect it and make that **** right for a change. their cars are never around long enough to work all the bugs out, except for say the corvette, and thats a great car, why? cause its been around for so long. if they would start doing that with their smaller cars, they would have awesome cars.

the problem with this blog is I think it jumps the gun just a little bit.... production was just started when it was written and and cars were just starting to hit dealer lots. Some cars arent even available yet. The RS packaged cars were just released a few weeks ago and the Eco model just started production as well when this blog came out. When I brought my cobalt in for service last month I went to look at the Cruze, the dealer had 7 on the lot and all 7 were sold. I think its way to early to plan the demise of the cruze.... it does happen to be getting alot of posative media attention, expecially for its ride quality and interior.

Honestly, I've driven a couple. They've very nice cars. They're to the Cobalt/G5 what the Cobalt/G5 was to the Cavalier/Sunfire. A big improvement. I drove a brand new Eco (was a demo from Lordstown) and an LT that was a few weeks old. I'd buy one, but they're costly. That's the issue. The problem isn't that they're slow, or small, or poorly built. No, they're just expensive for what they are. If they don't sell many, that's why. It's no secret. I like the RS package alot. But that makes a costly small car even costlier. And it's no faster.

The Malibu is a GM hit. It is the perfect family car, and if I wasn't single (five years now. Hooray!), I would seriously consider it. I actually looked at it when I bought my Balt, but it is too big for just me.

The Malibu isn't big? lol Isn't it a G6 chassis? If anything, price should be a bigger factor.
I'd have a Yukon Denali if price wasn't a factor. Do I need one? No. Is it badass? Yes.

Chevy produced super fail with this car. Would it have killed them to put the 2.2 LAP ecotec from the cobalt in the Cruze? It still would have had great mpg's and great pick-up and run on regular unleaded.

I think the death kneel for the Cruze will be how scared people will be to buy a compact Chevy turbo car that runs on premium when gas goes beyond $4.00 a gallon this summer. All those people that thought they were getting a good deal on a new economy car are going to be pissed when they're paying twice as much to fill it up than people driving Civics and Corollas. As well as paying too much a month in car payments because the car is far too overpriced.

chevy will and has turned major profit with this car. The cars price will drop, incentives will be made, and the car will go about the normal life cycle of any new car released onto the market. Is it a great car? no. Its entry level. Compared to other entry levels is it a great alternative? absolutely. The price of the car is definitely comparable. As are the fit/finish, ROI points, cost to manufacture is cheaper and as a result, they are already successful with this car. Their manufacturing numbers are low as a result of their past mistake of overproduction and inflated numbers. With the more conserative approach to a decent alternative to whats currently on the market, their are well on their way to success. The real defining factor will be the replacement for the cruze, THAT is what will make or brake it.
