a friend of mine gave me his vibrant header off his cobalt. his car was wrecked and the downpipe was no good, but the header is in great shape around 1500 mile no damage. so now i have it, took it to a performance shop to install it...it will not fit the stock downpipe because the vibrant header is longer than the stock header...the guy told me he would have to cut and weld to get it to fit...is this true...i looked at the set up and the vibrant header is longer than the stock headers..i called vibrant but they dont sell just a downpipe...so what can i do or is the mechanic wrong

 

just take out the stock dp and have him make a catless dp and bolt it to the cat back. If you dont have emissions/inspections then no worries. You will throw a cat inefficient code and the engine light will stay lit but it will not effect the cars performance or reliability. If you have access the hp tuners then u can turn off the code but any testing done with the obd2 port will show that the code is disabled and you will fail unless you pay to pass

I ran with no cat and the light on for 6 months with zero problems.

 

so emmisions/inspection is done every year...so thats not an option...do you think a hi flow downpipe from another company will work.i just don want to buy a downpipe from another company and it not fit right

 

I believe Vibrant is 2.5" exit...just find a downpipe with the same flange bolt design which looks like it could be a 3 bolt design...should bolts right up I would think or just get a custom hi flow and cat back exhaust.

 

The vibrant combo is midlength. You either need a vibrant DP which they will not sell you by itself (meaning you need to buy used from someone here/on ebay) OR to have a custom DP made. GL

You should sell that header and then buy new Vibrant/cat, solve your problems? Or just look for someone with used dp that matches this header as stated above....

 

ok, thats what i have to do. i was just hoping for a better option....oooo well....
