Lightbulb 06 twin-charged in the works

I've recently acquired a k03 turbo and have been wanting to apply it to my 06 sc cobalt. However I'm not sure it would be worth it to put it on cause the ko3 can only put out about 16lbs reliably. It would be a good 4 and half pounds of extra boost but I don't even know if the ko3 can support the high rpm power I'm looking to add cause that's where the sc lacks. Anyone know if it would be worth it or know much about the ko3. Any suggestions?

I don't think a K03 would be sufficient for your engine for top end power.

The K03 is known for spooling at a low RPM. On VW 1.8T engines, it spools around 1800RPM and tapers off by 5,000RPM.

The fact that it will produce 16PSI is completely irrelevent in this case, because the volume of airflow is the important aspect.

Your M62 is going to be more efficient at 5000+RPM than a K03. Its just not a big enough compressor. Even a K04 probably wouldn't be large enough for your goal, they peak by 5500RPM on the LNF.

What would u reccommend for a twin charge setup? I'm really wanting to convert it into a straight up turbo setup but again do not know which would make more power. I like the instant boost with the sc but love the high end power of the turbo cause when I'm racin its all up in the high end.

You are going about this the wrong way. If you want topend power, you are going to have to spend the money on a decently large turbo. The whole point in twincharging is to pick up spool time where a large-frame turbo lags. It's not to look cool, it's about function.

And twincharging doesn't work they way you think it does when it comes to the boost, hell that's not how you read boost at all. It's about CFM, not boost level. Too add in, if you use the turbo and the supercharger together, you'll be compounding the boost. So take that 16psi from the turbo, and then it gets compounded by the supercharger. It doesn't just add boost.

If you do get the K03, you need to swap out the compressor wheel and housing to have any form of topend. Here is one place to look at......... G-Pop Shop :: Turbo Upgrades

Ok see I'm really not too knowledgeable on how the whole twincharging works. Would I see any performance increase just from applying it as is? I have a lot to learn. Would I be better off just getting a smaller pulley and lighter crank pully to improve the sc just for a quick easy power increase?

I dont think you know what your getting yourself into. You can research ottp stage kits and zzp stage kits for power increase. Basically more cooling mods, injectors, and pulley down.

If you use the Stock LNF turbo (k03), you are going to run into huge surge problems because of how fast it will spool with the blower on. Jimbo had issues with it on his LSJ and he was without the stock blower. It spools faster than the Throttle Body can open.

You are going to have to go spend money on a bigger turbo if you want to do this. End of discussion.
