ATTN Supporting Vendors: Request for custom engine mounts

I wanted to start a thread to show interest in getting some custom engine mounts fabricated for those of us who want to or already have lowered the car and wish to realign the axles to the stock angle.

GM publishes in their latest build book that they used custom mounts which I have pictures of at the end of this post. They basically rotated the engine forward in the engine bay. I'm sure a couple of vendors here have access to machine shops capable of doing this. Would probably need to replace the rear bottom mount, the passenger side top mount and the driver's side top mount. The mount on the bottom toward the lower rad support I imagine could stay stock unless the engine would need to be lowered slightly towards the front. We would need 3, possibly 4 mounts for this setup. GM used solid steel mounts, the ability to use rubber or polyurethane inserts would be nice.

Edit: For those who have never read one of the build books the pics shown are made for a 4t65e application from the phase 5 cobalt and will not work. The ones used in the time attack car are not shown nor mentioned who fabricated them.

Edit: and possibly a set of steering rack shims.

Awesome. I can deal with solid ones (with neutral balance shafts it'll be win). Just figured they would sell better if they were a bit less harsh.

I can't remember what mounts the rack down to the subframe but if it's just simple bolts I'm sure a set of washers would do the trick.

yea they're attached by a nut and bolt through the sub-frame. Pretty sure they have washers on as well.

Yeah it's just too rediculously long bolts into threaded parts of the subframe, so shimming should be a problem. I might do it before I yank the motor out, but I think it would easier when I do the swap. either way, my car is lowered, and I need to do it soon before I cause some more drivetrain havoc. And yeah I'll also be running nuetral balance shafts in my other motor, so I better stop by the dentist and make sure all my fillings are in good lol.
I dont see it taking my more than a day at my friends shop to get a test set made up. Maybe this weekend or next I'll head over there and get some pieces made up

The one is, the other 2 are engine mounts. The first pic I added in of the steering rack is from the time attack car.

This is working for me as a temp fix. The long bolts have a good amout of thread to them, just locktite them back in. I raised mine just under 1/2in. with spacers. A good set of off-center uethane mounts would be killer!

ah...I can imagine how much it would vibrate because of the lack of something soft in there anywhere

Eh, the mounts wouldn't be bad (Dan has similar ones in his turbo redline) its the trans controller for the 4t65 that wouldn't be street friendly.

If someone can get me dimensions, I can almost certainly make them out of billet aluminum.

i used this same concept when mounting the motor in my buddys sunbird (turbo l61 powered 90 sunbird convertable) because of the air ride. i tilted the back of the tranny up 1 1/2" to get the proper driveline angle at the desired ride height. this was no issue for me to do at all as i had to weld the engine mount brackets into the car, i just put them were i wanted.

the cobalt, thats a bit of another issue. the front and rear tranny mounts are no big deal, either offset bushings or just a mount bracket with holes in another spot. the top engine and transmission mount are the issue as you are talking about completly redesigning the mounts themselves so they sit on an angle. you also need to take into consideration were the axle will end up in relation to the body, fluid levels in your engine and tranny, clearance between the rad support and supercharger.

some serious r&d needs to go into something like this, however done correctly it could be a very nice, usefull, and profitable product.

We also can look into manufacturing 100% solid (no bushing) metal to metal mounts, however the vibs will be really bad in the car...

Would their be interest in having 4 solid (metal to metal) mounts made? We are again willing to take this on as it is what we specialize in (metal fab)

Not with solid metal to metal mounts, the engine/tranny, is directly connected to the car frame. No urathane bushings to absorb any vibs...
