Cobalt SS Vortec idea!!
Cobalt SS Vortec idea!!
Just putting this out there for feedback!!! Lately I have been thinking of swapping my 2.0 I4 for an HT 3.4L v6 engine. I am wondering if there is anything other than space I need to factor in?? I was told by the custom car shop I'm dealing with Shorty's Garage in Crossfield, AB. That I may be able to squeeze it in or if not, I may look at the 4.3L V6 vortec from my 97' sonoma and just go RWD. The Engine alone from my truck boasted 210 HP. Should I pursue this avenue, or just give up on a pipe dream??

That thought had crossed my mind, I was also going for some originality. If I were to do that I'd probably try and push for twin turbo.
My thought proccess on a V6TT is sort of like a north american Skyline.
minus the AWD

I was told that the shape of my V6 would fit under the hood, as it is only wider at the top. The TT may be pushing it for space unless I wave bye bye to a couple things. Y'know windshield fluid resivior, relocation of the fusebox.
What had happened was, I bought this sonoma blew the engine and bought a brand new crate replacement. My Sonoma had a twisted frame so I never had the crate put in (the plan was to buy a body with a blown engine already in it and swap). But I fell in love with the balt and sorta forgot about my Sonoma. But I do remember that I loved the power of that engine.
The only thing is......How much more can we really build up our 2.0L? How much power can we squeeze from them and still get RELIABLE Horsepower? I just don't wanna blow this engine.

How much power?????? The block is good for 1000 for starters, and things don't start going boom until 350 or so.
Engine, harnesses, mounts, drive tunnel, rear end, tranny......Just on the basic level, you're looking at a ton of shop time, and a hell of a labor bill

Points taken. And y'know I do love my 2.0L I guess selling the crate could probably give me some money towards an ass load of engine internals. To be clear I'm not ripping on the 2.0L I DO love the platform. I'm sitting at 270 Horses as of now. What would you suggest as the next logical step. I'm looking for the most bang for my next few bucks.
Quick off topic question for JBomm. Have you taken any pics of your balt by Mt. Rushmore? I was planning on doing just that if I were to make the 2000 mile journey to the Columbus, Ohio meet on the 19th of April. Seeing as how I would be passing through the Dakota's
