Gen 3 2.0 Project

So im doing a little project with a Gen 3 2.0 block from a 2011 Buick Turbo. As we know the Gen 3 2.0 has no sleeves which means you cant bore it because of the special coating on the bores. Soooo I have a set of Ductile Moly Alloy liners made .090 wall which is 50 percent thicker than our stock liners. So after a visit to the best machinist on the east coast I have this.

All I need now is a rotating assembly. Should be good for 600 HP

This has caught my interest.

As for the LSJ. JE 9.5:1 or go 10.5:1 for E85 blower cars. Thats just my preference!

So is it still a 2.0L? If it can't be bored, and then you added .090" thick sleeves resulting in a .180" decrease in bore diameter...

It cant be bored unless you add sleeves because of the coating on the aluminum cylinder walls. The cylinders as cast are twice as thick as the older blocks making them very strong. No we bored the cylinders out and sleeved it back to stock bore . Super strong now and can use any type piston available. No need for a girdled block now.

So this was a 2.4 that was then sleeved and bored roughly to be finish honed with the rotating assembly to be a 2.0?

I thought it was a gen 3 2.0? All he did was bore it for sleeves, which were std? Didn't actually change the resulting bore size?

Then I'm lost int he first post. "As we know the Gen 3 2.0 has no sleeves which means you cant bore it".

The original bore is just coated/treated/hardened whatever. You can't bore it without removing the hardened area and leaving you with soft aluminum. He bored it out to accept a double thick sleeve and the n bored out the sleeve bring it back to the original 2.0 L but with a thicker sleeve so you don't have to girdle it.

Perfect explanation. I only have to hone the sleeves as they are a few thousanths under standard bore.

The direct injection 2.4 looks similar to the 2.0 except it has sleeves and a whole engine can be had for $750. It also uses the LNF head used on the 2.0. Cheap source of parts. I was thinking of getting a set of sleeves made which would shrink the bore to 88.5MM to make it super strong.

So a block designed for the 2.4 bore but sleeved thick with a 2.0 bore. I like that Idea. Put an LSJ head on it and you'll have a great setup to drop in.

would you be able to do this with the DI 2.4 block and have it work with an LE5 crank/head?
