LE5 cam swap into LAP
and yes you will most definitely need a tune with any larger cam, most likely you WILL need to upgrade your valve springs if you plan to take it over stock redline, plus the injectors start to suck ass around 7k anyways. Suggestion: supertech kit
The cam gears/phasers are all part of the same assembly that comes off together. The cams are pined to line them back up with the cam gears...so I cant see any special tools being needed.
Cam bearing bolts are 89lb-in.

Check with GM tho for the PN on the LAP valve springs and the LE5 valve springs, 99% chance they both use the same spring.
Other than that...should be a pretty straight forward swap, then again I've never seen a LAP head before...but I can only imagine it uses all the same parts like the rest of the Ecotec family does.

i know this probably isnt the best at comparing but Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market is showing 2.4L head available when i look up a 2.2 head (LAP)
so that means they would be the same/swappable? and if they are then we could use LE5 aftermarket cams in the LAP

newt the springs are the same along with the retainers and seats, anything else besides the gears and phasers that i need? the actual head number itself is the same, same valve cover gasket as well

Everything should cross over, and everything you have to remove should be re-usable, gaskets and such. I know the non-vvt cars have TTY cam gear bolts, the ones on the VVT gears are much different and may not need to be replaced, i've re-used the other ones before with no problems anyway.
I don't see much of a gain from this though, the LE5 cams aren't that big, still a stock cam.

Well if the head PN is the same then you guys are laughing.

The LAP motor is basically an LE5 head stuck on a 2.2L block, and since you guys are seeing that the heads are the same number anyway, it's really just the exact same thing. You could in theory use LNF cams with the fuel pump lobe cut off, or LSJ cams, if you were so inclined.
This as well. LE5 and LAP cams are probably exactly the same p/n and everything.

Ok, cams on the LAP are probably a little smaller due to the lower displacement and slightly more economy bias of the engine.
I doubt there's a difference, but it would be funny if one of the other 2.4L applications had a bigger cam spec, malibu or something.
Pretty sure power ratings never changed though, so it's unlikely.

There ya go then, buy some LE5 cams and you guys are good to go.
FYI all the non-VVT ecotecs have differant keys for the cam gears, so they probably won't work, my L61 uses a knotch as well as the LSJ I believe, the LE5 I have uses a pin and so would a LAP.
