oil filter relocation

oil filter relocation
just curious if anyone has cut off the stock oil filter section of the motor and installed a remote oil filter? that and an alternator relocate would make it possible to run a real custom intake with full length lami cores. so basically, move the alternator to the ac position and fabricate a idler pulley and bracket for where the alternator used to sit.

I have done the remote oil filter on my DD (damaged oil filter housing in shipping) and it isn't worth the time and money to do. It was a nightmare and if your's isn't broken don't bother.

that is friggin awesome, exactly what i want to do, im sure there was suffering along the way but it looks completely legit as a finished product. i assume the key is the plate youve bolted where the filter housing used to be to convert the irregularly shaped passages into tubes. it must make oil changes much simpler as well. thank you so much for taking the time to post these photos. does the oil cooler seem to make much difference? cooler engine? oil holds up better? im going to install the phenolic intake spacer shortly so im slightly concerned about engine cooling, if this mod helps with that at all its even more reason to do it.

When you remove the oil filter housing you also remove the stock oil cooler mounting points so you have to use an aftermarket oil cooler. The upside is that you have cooler oil as it isn't already heated up as it is with the stock oil cooler.
The plate that you refer to is available from Bates Engineering so that is an easy part of the puzzel.
There weren't to many places to put the remote oil filter considering the other mods that I have under the hood and routing the braided lines was a bit challenging.
If all of the needed work doesn't bother you and you have someone who can professionally remove the stock oil filter housing then you are a good candidate to do that mod. I know I should have done a 'how to' but it was really crazy with everything going wrong with my project car as well as the DD. Perhaps you can do one in case someone else wants to do it too.
PS I no longer have this mod on my car because after all of that work, the jbp engine blew up 180 miles after start up. Another fellow in the US now has that mod on his car.

Something like this should do: BOE Fabrication - Lotus Elise, Exige, and Evora Performance ECM Tuning Products
Tried several options, but our cast oil filter is a major hurdle for a lowered SC...
This plate solution works (angled hose connections should be a bit tighter), but for me the housing removal (block machining...) is simply too much effort for a still unproven gain.
2nd best option:
Replace/lower the alternator and "stretch" the current manifold design in that direction with longer laminova cores inside. And maybe by swapping endplate connections to the other side you could win some length at the filterside too.
Maybe one day....

the engine failure didnt have anything to do with oil starvation i hope? that just gave me pause for a second lol. angling the ports seems like it might make a little more room but mostly i didnt want to have to consider changing the oil filter when designing the intake.
