So with all this talk about aftermarket sleeves an filled blocks it seems like GM finally stepped up to the plate and said check mate.

very nice, about time they think ahead

what car does that motor exactly belong to? am not sure

LS6Rally Nov 7, 2012 11:36 AM

Regal Turbo/GS

ebristol Nov 7, 2012 12:51 PM

GM calls the LHU a high performance version of the LNF.

jonathan923 Nov 7, 2012 01:21 PM

thats even more interesting. so those motors, you just do head gasket, pistons, rods, cams, big turbo and all the boost you want? :)

Dawgz83948 Nov 7, 2012 04:44 PM

Not really new, or more robust. As a matter of fact the 944 Turbo's that I'm used to were like this. At higher boost levels the blocks were sent out to be sleeved for better rigidity. Nice to see they didn't leave the top of the block open......

That's a nice sandcast block, but can't see the liners? It probably doesn't have some sort of nikasil bore coating on the aluminium, right?
(Lot's of mods on that engine!!)

slapbetcommissioner Nov 7, 2012 07:28 PM

That is allot more confidence inspiring block!

anyone know if that is a direct swap for LNF or LSJ block?

07MetallicSC Nov 7, 2012 07:36 PM

zzp had 4 of these for sale, complete with rads, pcms, harnesses, turbos and all. prices was cheap, like $2799 or something.

cmiller8006 Nov 7, 2012 08:25 PM

My worry is how will just the aluminum hold upto 30+ psi? Not having a steel sleeve in there

09BlueBaltSS Nov 7, 2012 08:28 PM

^ and the wear characteristics when using alternate fuel and lots of boost?

Cobalt_SSTuner Nov 7, 2012 09:17 PM

Interesting...

Well newer sleds, atv's and motorcycles don't run sleeves. They run what's called a Nikasil coating. It actually also gives a much better heat conductivity than cast iron sleeves. I would assume that's what this is. I work at a powersports dealership and people boost the crap out of stuff without issues haha.

cmiller8006 Nov 7, 2012 10:40 PM

yea I know the coating and what not. Just currious as how it will hold up for longevity as well as strength

Bluelightning Nov 7, 2012 10:50 PM

Well we got guys out in the field with turbo sleds making over 300hp without issues. Look at all the turbo street bikes and such on you tube haha.

cmiller8006 Nov 7, 2012 10:54 PM

Looking it up and reading a bit it looks like a lot of the bmw's and the gtr's, lambos come with this coating from the factory. However underground, ams and some others are switching to a sleeved block for high hp builds.

Bluelightning Nov 7, 2012 10:57 PM

Ya I'm sure if you were going for insane power, sleeves would be the way to go.

cmiller8006 Nov 7, 2012 11:00 PM

Doesnt mean this wont be a good upgrade if it will work out for us.

it will last just fine nissan has been doing this on some of their engines

MP Cobalt Nov 8, 2012 12:07 AM

The block should be able to swap to an lsj or lnf. it's a block stripped out there the same and i believe the new regal are lnf's still
