GM calls the LHU a high performance version of the LNF.

 

thats even more interesting. so those motors, you just do head gasket, pistons, rods, cams, big turbo and all the boost you want?

 

Not really new, or more robust. As a matter of fact the 944 Turbo's that I'm used to were like this. At higher boost levels the blocks were sent out to be sleeved for better rigidity. Nice to see they didn't leave the top of the block open......

 

That's a nice sandcast block, but can't see the liners? It probably doesn't have some sort of nikasil bore coating on the aluminium, right?
(Lot's of mods on that engine!!)

zzp had 4 of these for sale, complete with rads, pcms, harnesses, turbos and all. prices was cheap, like $2799 or something.

 

My worry is how will just the aluminum hold upto 30+ psi? Not having a steel sleeve in there

Well newer sleds, atv's and motorcycles don't run sleeves. They run what's called a Nikasil coating. It actually also gives a much better heat conductivity than cast iron sleeves. I would assume that's what this is. I work at a powersports dealership and people boost the crap out of stuff without issues haha.

 

yea I know the coating and what not. Just currious as how it will hold up for longevity as well as strength

 

Well we got guys out in the field with turbo sleds making over 300hp without issues. Look at all the turbo street bikes and such on you tube haha.

 

Looking it up and reading a bit it looks like a lot of the bmw's and the gtr's, lambos come with this coating from the factory. However underground, ams and some others are switching to a sleeved block for high hp builds.

 

Ya I'm sure if you were going for insane power, sleeves would be the way to go.

 

Doesnt mean this wont be a good upgrade if it will work out for us.

The block should be able to swap to an lsj or lnf. it's a block stripped out there the same and i believe the new regal are lnf's still
