So with all this talk about aftermarket sleeves an filled blocks it seems like GM finally stepped up to the plate and said check mate.

Not really new, or more robust. As a matter of fact the 944 Turbo's that I'm used to were like this. At higher boost levels the blocks were sent out to be sleeved for better rigidity. Nice to see they didn't leave the top of the block open......

Well newer sleds, atv's and motorcycles don't run sleeves. They run what's called a Nikasil coating. It actually also gives a much better heat conductivity than cast iron sleeves. I would assume that's what this is. I work at a powersports dealership and people boost the crap out of stuff without issues haha.
Looking it up and reading a bit it looks like a lot of the bmw's and the gtr's, lambos come with this coating from the factory. However underground, ams and some others are switching to a sleeved block for high hp builds.
