19 inch wheels and drop

Hey guys,

I am going to get some 19x7.5 wheels with 225 rubber. These are going on a g5 se model with the 4x100 bolt pattern. Will I need to drop the car after this? If so, how much?

Thank you,

Adam

You never "need" to drop a car it just looks so much better dropped then stock. Specialy with rims.

blackg5 07-05-2007 11:53 AM

agreed

I agree. I used to have a tsx on 19's. I had the car lowered 2 inches and it looked hot. Just curious to know if I wanted a similar look. What drop would be needed?

i have mine dropped on 19s.....it looks a whole lot better with a bigger drop

JPizzle 07-05-2007 03:20 PM

When you put bigger rims/tires on your car, does it raise up the ride height?

PlaysWitCars 07-05-2007 03:25 PM

it raises it alittle...depends on your stock rim size

Thank you

Thank you for this useful response! Is your car a 4x100 pattern? I think for clearance issues all of the models are the same. How much did you drop your car? Brand? Cost?

Thanks,

Adam

I have the 5x110.....im using KW coilovers and not too sure how much of a drop it is anymore....but my rear sits right above my tires, same way with the front

blackg5 07-05-2007 03:40 PM

Ya his car does look tight. Man I remember back in the day that if you had 17's you were blingin' lol. I have a black g5 se that is a lease with hubcaps. I just want something to make it look a little more slick. Bu tasteful.

Bigger diameter wheels does not raise the ride hieght of your car unless you go with larger OUTSIDE diameter tires/ In other words you can make the wheel as big as you want as long as you keep the rolling diameter the same as stock. This will also keep the speedometer working properly.

Your gonna be running low profile tires not super swampers.

Trying to get to photobucket so I can post a few pics....the .mil i am on is being gay.
My name on there is doc_ss, check out the cobalt ss folder

I added a rear strut bar and ever since the outer edge of the tires rub occasionally...It only happens if I take a corner aggressively.

So what your saying is if I take my rims and put a lower profile tire on it... my speedo will be off?

that depends on the diameter of the stock wheel vs the new wheel.

the best way to measure it is this
mark a line on your tire and the road, roll the wheel one complete revolution, measure that

do the same thing for the new set...compare the distance...usually a 2% difference is acceptable.

Now when I upgraded to 20 inch wheels, they are real close the the stock wheels (with tires) so my speedo is really close.

OrngBalt 07-05-2007 04:36 PM

Ok thanks... I am not changing rim size... I got 16" aftermarkets and was gonna go 45 instead of 55

Doc 07-05-2007 04:39 PM

what size are the stock wheels and tires..?

Jackalope 07-05-2007 04:40 PM

If your rolling diameter is 28 inches and you go to a 26 inch diameter then yes you will throw it off.

OrngBalt 07-05-2007 04:43 PM

205/55/16 (stock) wanted to go 215/45/16 (new) if i can

It should be a tiny bit smaller diameter but I doubt you'll see a difference. You need to go to the tire manufacurers sites and get the exact measurments and that will tell you if it'll be off or not.

I have a site that converts this...its on my laptop, in the other classroom....lemme see if I can do this in my head..
112.75 to 96.75

Dimension
Tire A: 205/55 R 16 (25 x 8.07 x 16)
Width 8.07" (205.00mm)
Sidewall height 4.44" (112.75mm)
Overall height 24.88" (631.90mm)
Circumference 78.16" (1985.17mm)

Tire B: 215/45 R 16 (24 x 8.46 x 16) Difference
Width 8.46" (215.00mm)
Sidewall height 3.81" (96.75mm)
Overall height 23.62" (599.90mm)
Circumference 74.20" (1884.64mm)

Difference
Width +0.39" (+10.00mm)
Sidewall height -0.63" (-16.00mm)
Overall height -1.26" (-32.00mm)
Circumference -3.96" (-100.53mm)

If your speedometer has been calibrated for 205/55 R 16 (25 x 8.07 x 16) tires, replacing them with 215/45 R 16's (25 x 8.46 x 16's) would result in the speedometer reading high by 5.33%.

Same as with the speedometer, if your odometer has been calibrated for 205/55 R 16 (25 x 8.07 x 16) tires, replacing them with 215/45 R 16's (24 x 8.46 x 16's) would result in the odometer reading high by 5.33%.

Thanks DOC!

OrngBalt 07-05-2007 04:55 PM

ok.... so we are talking 3 miles an hour at 55 and 5 at 100... no big deal... I thought it was gonna be worse than that.

thanks bro... thats a hell of a website

Doc 07-05-2007 05:00 PM

remember, that adds a % for every mile you tick off....so, you travel 300 miles and it registers 330.....that adds up quick.
